Post Hurricane Musings

by: deciminyan

Sun Aug 28, 2011 at 09:29:51 AM EDT

While I applaud Governor Christie for his visibility during the hurricane, his appearances on national media while wearing his sweatshirt from the Chris Christie Theme Park is a bit ridiculous. Too bad he killed New Jersey's television network. Their coverage would have come in handy during this event.

Should I Worry? (3.50 / 2)
The eye of the storm went right over the Oyster Creek nuclear plant - the oldest operating plant in the U.S. Should I worry that I have not heard any reassuring reports from Excelon or the NRC? Oh, never mind - I wouldn't trust either of them anyway.

CNN, Today Show (0.00 / 0)
Christie is on the Today Show right now. He's already done CNN. And unless I'm missing something has not yet talked to state press.

You know, this morning I was going to write about how well I think the state has done so far, including the governor who vacationed out the December blizzard at Disney. But eff that sh*t.

This is a really dick move. This governor is too addicted to national attention. Run for president. Don't run for president. But check your ego at the door during a disaster.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

No radio? (0.00 / 0)
His press schedule has no radio listed.  400K+ are without power. Shouldn't he be on local radio for these people?

Emphasis on Di%k (0.00 / 0)
Chris Christie just got asked for an explanation as to why he ignored local radio and instead chose to do national news interviews and all he could say was "No. Next question" then rolled his eyes.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.

Post NJN (0.00 / 0)
Is it any suprise that he can't scramble fast enough to get in front of a national camera for that national exposure?

This essentually helps prove that the megolomaniac cares nothing for the people or state of New Jersey. His ego trumps all.

He shuttered NJ's only real outlet for local news and information, statewide, and instead of getting on local radio to compensate for the lack of local television, he runs to national media to shout "Look at me, look at me!"

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.

Exactly (0.00 / 0)
Compare Christie, wearing a shirt emblazoned with his name saying "look at me, I'm the great and powerful Wizard of Drumthwacket", to Mayor Nutter whose attire included a jacket with the emblem of the city. Nutter emphasizes the office while Christie emphasizes the office holder.

Insulting and hypocritical (4.00 / 1)
Just watched Christies "Regional" press conference.
He literally insulted most New Jerseyans' by saying he was suprised that they could work together and not be pig-headed or difficult or some such thing in dealing with the emergencies.
Also had to eat some crow as he gave credit to New Jersey state workers for doing their jobs well.
That must be a taste he'll have difficulty getting off his tongue.

He couldn't even give post emergency responsewithout finding a way to insult the general population of New Jersey.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.

News 12 covered it very well (0.00 / 0)
They have very local coverage and Governor Christie did appear on News 12 specifically.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

I think Christie was simply going for (4.00 / 1)
maximum coverage so more people could see it.  News 12, which had the best local coverage is only available on Cablevision.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

No, we have Comcast (0.00 / 0)
And we get News12.

This isn't over yet. Some rivers (0.00 / 0)
don't crest till Wednesday.  We are still in a serious situation.  Around this time after Hurricane Katrina folks were walking around the French Quarter saying New Orleans had just "dodged a bullet".  It wasn't the storm that killed the majority of those we lost - it was the flooding that came the night after....

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

Christie's "Performance" Was Effective Politically... (0.00 / 0)
Just as was Giuliani's around 9-11.  Authoritarians profit from exploiting fear/crisis/disaster....that's their "turf"

Christie's great con jop is in being able to sound like he's strong and sincere and like he gives a crap about ordinary people.....all while he's implementing policies that shaft the majority of New Jerseyans...and folks are still buying it.

You gotta give the devil his due, he's a great con artist...meanwhile let's hope that the 650k + households without power get back on line asap...........my sense is that that is the most pressing practical and political challenge/opportunity before us for the next ten days or so....living without electricity is a major drag, and for some can be life threatening.

I would hope that our Democratic leaders can come up with some smart, constructive and effective proposals for expediting the process of restoring power to everyone.

Meanwhile, Christie continues to milk the publicity to promote his national image.

If not 2012, then certainly in 2016...this bum wants to be president......and that can only happen if he is given a pass by passive/defeated NJ Democrats who should be preparing to make sure he's a one term governor.

Meanwhile, let us thank God (not Christie ;-) that the storm wasn't as horrifically bad as it could have been.

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

A suburb of Philly and NYC (0.00 / 0)
Being a transplanted Californian, I always viewed New Jersey as a suburb that is squahed between New York and Philadelphia. Chris Christie has, once again, reinforced that perception.
