by: Senator Loretta Weinberg

Fri Jun 24, 2011 at 10:36:04 PM EDT

Empire State Building goes rainbowI hope the Senator doesn't mind my posting this amazing picture in her diary. The Empire State Building goes rainbow! - Rosi

What a week in the legislatures of New York and New Jersey and what a juxtaposition! There's nothing more I can say.

Senator's right again - no words (4.00 / 1)
But, the picture says it all. :)

A bittersweet moment (4.00 / 4)
This should have been New Jersey's moment more than a year ago. But I'm thrilled that it's New York's moment now after years of hard work on the part of a lot of people in the Empire State. And what a stunning picture, Rosi.

The picture is astonishing and beautiful (4.00 / 2)
How could I mind?

Simply Awesome! (0.00 / 0)
Well done, New York.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.

Proud to be an ex-New Yorker (4.00 / 2)
I lived in conservative Central New York for over 30 years, and I'm especially proud of the courageous vote of my friend Senator Dave Valesky, a religious man from a conservative district whose position evolved from marriage discrimination to marriage equality. Thank you, Dave!

I am proud to be from New York (0.00 / 0)
Even though I have not lived in NY for 4 years now, my home state did the right thing and voted yes on marriage equality.

This should have been our moment 1.5 years ago.

Which side (of history) are we on? (0.00 / 0)
Congratulations --to all of us--but especially to those who will take immediate advantage.

Take it from me, marriage is a ball--and chain!  (At least, that's what my wife says.)

Teachers often need to put the hateful ideas of the past into context--"How could people be so racist, sexist, stupid, etc.?" they ask.

I ask them, what will folks say about us 50 years from now?

I should also ask, "Who is against basic civil rights for all?  And why?"

Is there an anti-gay view that doesn't involve religion?
