"Where's Junior?" on Social Security

by: Thurman Hart

Thu Jun 29, 2006 at 03:02:39 PM EDT

Methinks a Flim-Flam artist walks amongst us.

Tom Kean, Jr. - fresh from his dual debate spanking by Bob Menendez - is now being haunted by his past.  He writes (ok, someone wrote it FOR him) on his campaign site:

Tom is committed to keeping the promise of Social Security for current recipients and those nearing retirement.  At the same time, changes will be required to keep the program solvent for future generations.  This problem can only be solved through bipartisan cooperation.  In the U.S. Senate, Tom will work with Republicans and Democrats to find bipartisan solutions to the long-term challenges facing Social Security, so that this important program can continue to provide retirement security for Americans far into the future.

The problem is that the Kiddo only last year voted against a bill that would tell President Bush to keep his greedy paws off our Social Security funds - twice.

Join me under the fold for an analysis.

Thurman Hart :: "Where's Junior?" on Social Security
First, The Kidder is saying that he only cares about old people:
Tom is committed to keeping the promise of Social Security for current recipients and those nearing retirement.

Uh, Tommie-boy, you're doing a heckuva job.  Thanks for telling me outright that you don't give a damn about my retirement.  If you aren't "nearing retirement" - an ambiguous term at best - then he doesn't care about Social Security's promise to you.  Screw you!  Go get your bootstraps and start pulling, you lightweight!

At the same time, changes will be required to keep the program solvent for future generations.

True enough.  Changes are always required for a long-term program to remain healthy and vibrant.  Thanks, Tommie Flim-Flam, for pointing out the obvious.  Are you telling me you think I'm too stupid to understand this simple principle?

This problem can only be solved through bipartisan cooperation.

Well, if you can show me a Republican who is willing to say the President's idea is crap, I'll go along with that.  But you want the President's ill-advised plan to dismantle Soc. Sec. - a program that was a party line Republican concept, born and in-bred in the incestuous circles of the Heritage Foundation.

In the U.S. Senate, Tom will work with Republicans and Democrats to find bipartisan solutions to the long-term challenges facing Social Security,

As a state senator, I'm sure he'll visit anyone who will take his call - including both of his US Senators, Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez.  Flim-Flam Kean is about as bi-partisan as Karl Rove's buttcrack (a disgusting thought, to be sure).  The closest he comes to a bi-partisan effort is spitting on Republicans who vote for common-sense Democratic measures.

so that this important program can continue to provide retirement security for Americans far into the future.

Yes, I want Social Security to be there when I retire - so I promise not to vote for anyone who has tried to privatize it or anyone who voted against a measure meant to advise the President of that.

Are you using a wiffle-bat, Flim-Flam?  You sure are striking out on this.

Tommi-boy Flim-Flam Kean, Jr owes it to NJ to explain where he stands on Social Security.  Unfortunately, it looks like he might not know.  Of course, anyone who saw any part of the recent debates shouldn't expect anything else.

You can't "save" Social Security by embracing an approach that risks the hard-fought gains of working men and women on the mood of the market.
