Who Are The Democrats You Can't Count On?

by: Couch Potato Politics

Thu May 12, 2011 at 07:00:49 PM EDT

A recent article innorthjersey.com regarding sweeney's healthcare reform bill
seems to indicate that the transformation of Senator Stephen Sweeney from marginal Democrat to absolute Republican is complete and that the disease is contagious.

Governor Chris Christie, right, and Senate President Stephen Sweeney .
Thick as Thieves

The only thing missing in the article are the names of those Democrats Sweeney's office are claiming the support of. Could it be part of the deal? Do they fear the wrath and rage of the public workers enough to want to keep their names off of the bill until it is too late to stop the passage?

It seems very telling that the senator's office isn't mentioning names. Maybe
accountability for bad legislation isn't something they want to have? Maybe they
know that legislating healthcare and pension benefits is a bad idea and reeks of
Republican ideology and anti-labor spirit?

Their is a disease permeating the Democrats in New Jersey and it's called
DiNO-syphillis. A disease caught from ideologically laying with Republicans on
the anti-union / anti-labor agenda. The Typhoid Mary Prostitute of this recent
outbreak is, without a doubt, Stephen Sweeney and his pimp is George Norcross,
III.

But, just because the "Bosses" want it, don't count the Assembly out of riding in to save the day:
""The Assembly continues to be increasingly frustrated by the governor's failure to show leadership and do what's he's supposed to do - negotiate a contract that both protects taxpayers and worker rights." - Sheila Oliver

Few Assembly Democrats support Sweeney's pension overhaul plan, sources say

It's time to clean up the Democratic streets of New Jersey and start
demanding a return to the progressive ideals that made New Jersey the jewel of
the Northeast for so many years. Stop the disease by calling every legislator
and letting them know that if they don't stand with labor, they won't stand in
office long. Votes are power and voters have the final authority, not George
Norcross, III or Stephen Sweeney.

Reliable Sweeney ! (0.00 / 0)
The State Senator has a health plan reform proposal that is not that much different from the CWA proposal BUT ENSURES THAT ALL GOVERNMENT WORKERS PAY FAIRLY.

If CWA cannot get the self centered PBA and NJEA to sign on to a mutual proposal Sweeney will be forced to legislate his ideas AND HIS PLAN IS 100% BETTER FOR STATE WORKERS THAN CHRISTIE'S PLAN.

Sweeney brokered the successful start up of the UNIONIZED ( remember there are OTHER unions besides government worker unions) Revel construction project which now has more than 1800 UNIONIZED  construction workers.

Sweeney ,almost single handedly, pushed and fought for the Paid Family Leave Act for ALL WORKERS.

I could go one and on about the worker and union friendly accomplishments of the State Senate President.

Some Legislators talk, some get things done.

Steve Sweeney is a " get things done " person!

The depth of your understanding shallow (0.00 / 0)
You state: "The State Senator has a health plan reform proposal that is not that much different from the CWA proposal BUT ENSURES THAT ALL GOVERNMENT WORKERS PAY FAIRLY." but ignore, either through blind worship to Sweeney or purposeful ignorance of fact and history, that LEGISLATING what has been a traditionally negotiated SUPPORTING LEG of UNIONISM (Benefits and Pensions) is Organized Labor SUICIDE.

I Don't want to call you stupid or a traitor to the cause of union rights but, by god, what the hell are you?

Sweeney IS NO DEMOCRAT! He is supported by a PRO-CORPORATE INSURANCE EXECUTIVE with EVERYTHING to gain by letting the state MANDATE instead of negotiate.
I have been as polite as possible (barely, but I tried for a while)  but you are teetering between fool and idiot with your line of reasoning and fealty to Sweeney.

Once given away to legislation, the right to negotiate will likely NEVER return to the bargaining table and in that one act, much of the EMPLOYEES power to have a say in their future is gone. You would cut off your nose to spite your face if it means maintaining an allegiance to Sweeney the Liar and traitor.

You make no good point by regurging the same wrong-headed garbage without recognition of the damage that would be wrought on the public workers were Sweeney's sell-out to occur.

Why do you think 100,000 people took to the streets in Wisconsin when Scott Walker decided to attack the very fundamentals of organized labor?  Because stealing the right to negotiate is wrong and at least the DEMOCRATS in Wisconsin had the spine and good sense to recognize that, unlike Stephen Sweeney. He is no better than Chris Christie and, in fact, is much worse because at least Christie is honest about being an asshole who hates public workers and the middle class. Stephen Sweeney doesn't even have the moral character to wear the {R} after his name instead of the {D}.

You still maintain zero credibility and until you recognize the suicide of Sweeney's plan, you remain ignorant or idiotic.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.

If not for Corzine... (0.00 / 0)
You state that "Sweeney ,almost single handedly, pushed and fought for the Paid Family Leave Act for ALL WORKERS."

Let's postulate a hypothosis; The Family Paid Leave Act came to the floor under Chris Christie and because of Christie's "Anti-Worker" ideology, he likely would have fought such a thing. I would venture to guess that Stephen "Christie's BFF" sweeney would have come down somewhere in then middle or leaning TOWARDS Christie.

I would further venture to say that had there been an avenue to deny the accessibility of the FPLA to PUBLIC WORKERS, Sweeney would have been the one to present it and campaign to get votes for it.

Sweeney is no friend to public workers and no friend to the Democratic ideals.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.

Just a hater (0.00 / 0)
You have never given Sweeney any credit.

Not for anything.

Not once.

It is personal with you.

Fine .Just admit that you are a a hater .But please stop trying to claim any semblance of fairness in your comments.

By the way, outside of State Senator Weinberg who do you consider a good Democrat?

Don't count on Sheila Oliver (3.00 / 1)
I won't use the same words that you did to describe Norcross and Sweeney, but I agree with the spirit with which they were used.  That said, regardless of the words that you choose to describe these men and their relationship, you should realize that the same relationship exists between Oliver and Steve Adubato and the four of them are the reason why Democrats in Trenton have been unwilling or unable to challenge Christie on any issue of significance.

But what is more pathetic than this foursome and what they have done to the Democratic Party in NJ is the unwillingness or inability of progressive Democrats inside or outside of Trenton to take them on.  As much as I would love to see Barbara Buono and Joe Cryan organize a coup against Sweeney/Norcross and Oliver/Adubato after the November elections, I would be truly shocked if it actually happened.
