S2718: Proof Sweeney is a DINO

by: brendanod

Wed May 11, 2011 at 03:36:33 PM EDT

Senator Sweeney is the kind of democrat who is enabling our current healthcare system to perpetuate by passing the costs onto the middle class.  Enabling a system that is broken, and instead of challenging republicans to over-hall and fix healthcare for everyone, is going to ramrod legislation that will make the middle class citizens take multi thousand dollar pay cuts.  Pay cut's that will support our current market driven healthcare system to continue  premium increases of 30% a year that ultimately cause more citizens to be left behind without coverage.

Senator Sweeney is the kind of democrat that supports legislation that will remove bargaining rights for tens of thousands of unionized employees.  Instead of defending the bargaining rights that spawned the middle class, Sweeney will remove those rights and replace them with law.

I wish there was a way we could revoke the "D" after his name and replace it with a "R", because that is clearly the party he belongs to.

Laughable!! (0.00 / 0)
In the first 5 minutes of bargaining CWA GAVE AWAY the health care issue.

Sweeney is actually saving them from embarrassment!

His proposal is fair and it MAKES EVERYONE PAY not just CWA members.

Sweeney is a true ,fair, responsible Democrat who knows that his proposals on both pension and health care MUST BE LEGISLATED TO BE FAIR .

In a MULTI-UNION FUND  all must pay.

Sweeney is giving cover to CWA. CWA would never get a contract ratified if it was negotiated that ONLY THEIR MEMEBRS  would pay increased health care costs.

Sweeney is protecting state workers from their own foolish negotiators.

He is the perfect buffer to the Governor and has done the right thing on 99% of the issues.

Your pathetic love affair (4.00 / 1)
with Sweeney is laughable.

Not only what I wrote is accurate, the situation is actually worse, because your messiah is twisting arms behind the scenes further embarrassing the democratic party to pass anti-union legislation.

Sweeney is doing the work for Christie and only assuring the insurance industry remains in control of the healthcare system.  Sweeney is clearly implicit in this scam.  Defending Sweeney on this issue only demonstrates your silly bias.

"Only a fool would follow a bully"

Not " anti-union" it is Pro- worker (0.00 / 0)
What do you not understand?

In the first 5 minutes of the first collective bargaining session CWA GAVE UP THE FIGHT ON HEALTH CARE !

CAVED IN ,ROLLED OVER,USE ANY CLICHE YOU KNOW.

The average CWA member already knows that they are going to pay more BECAUSE THEIR UNION CAVED IN ON THE FIRST DAY!

What CWA members DO NOT WANT  is to be the ONLY workers paying more.

Sweeney knows this . His plan, JUST LIKE THE CWA PLAN,is to have workers pay more,ONLY HIS PLAN HAS EVERYONE PAYING MORE!

A multi-union plan must be paid into by multiple unions.

Sweeney is actually helping the cause!

I really hope the people you work with don't listen to you (0.00 / 0)
You don't have the first clue when you're talking about.  You haven't read S3.  You don't know what's being negotiated.  You don't know what other unions at the statewide table have signed on to CWA's plan.  And your constant love affair for anything Sweeney does and incessant whining about anything CWA does--no matter what--makes you look silly and makes your union weaker.  You'd do well to remember that when you talk about privatization of corrections.

I really hope the people you work with aren't following you down the same path of ignorance.

I already have enough proof (0.00 / 0)
But, thanks.

Sweeney Was Right ! Unions Change Tune! (0.00 / 1)
For months it has been stated here  that a Multi-Union fund could not be negotiated one union at a time.

CWA could not ask their members to pay while other unions did not.

The uninformed argued that " well that is collective bargaining"!

State Senator Sweeney disagreed. He ,and he alone stood up and stated that ALL must pay and IF NECESSARY those issues would be legislated.

All the unions stood on their soap box and attacked him .

WELL GUESS WHAT! THE UNIONS HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!

This is from Jason Method's column in the APP:

The unions have offered Gov. Chris Christie's administration an opportunity to negotiate health benefit changes collectively, rather than force the state to cut separate deals as each contract is renewed, the leader of one major union said.

In addition, there is union agreement around a concept to have government workers pay more toward their pensions while having the state increase its contributions, according to a powerful Democratic lawmaker.

The union action marks a counter-move as state leaders approach a self-imposed deadline of June 30 to finalize a deal on two issues affecting state finances.

HATE TO SAY " I TOLD YOU SO!"

United DiNO's Damage Workers Rights (0.00 / 0)
Firstamend07 proves one thing; Ignorance is not the sole province of the Republican Party hard right faithful. DiNO's are as damaging if not MORE damaging to democratic rights and ideals than the Chris Christies and Scott Walkers of the world. They are an insidioius disease that eats away at the very foundation of Democratic ideology.

There has been a debate as to whether Firstamend07 is a Sweeney staffer or a right-wing plant pretending to be a left wing liberal (poorly executed attempt). Any way you cut it, he/she is about as productive as sand in a gearbox. Lots of noise, stifling progress and no good results.

Any bill that STRIPS employees of the RIGHT to negotiate their benefits and pensions is a direct attack on ALL labor and the Unions that represent them.
Without the bargaining chips of Healthcare and Pensions, all that is left of substance is salaries and Christie is already trying to attack those through his "Caps". So take away the Pensions, Healthcare and Salaries and what is left to negotiate? Holidays? heck, the Christie administration wouldn't even respect THAT. Remember the Black Friday vs Lincolns Birth debacle they created a few months ago? What power does the employee have left if you take two of the three legs of their compensation out from under the negotiating table?

Christie is doing EXACTLY what Scott Walker did in Wisconsin but instead of taking the message to the statehouse himself, he has a DEMOCRAT (Sweeney) carrying his water.

Firstamend07 is delusional and his unwavering support of Sweeney is, by proxy, a validation of the Christie Plan.

Consider, just for a minute, that Sweeney got what he wanted and then the tables of power turned further right in New Jersey and the ReTHUGlicans gainined majority? With Benefits and Pensions in the unchecked hands of a GOP majority Assembly and Senate, how long before the packages are stripped bare and made as useful as a bandaid on a gunshot wound?

Firstamend07 can't think past his/her love affair with Sweeney (and, by proxy, Christie) to see the possible Armageddon that could befall public workers if the shift right continues. t is THIS kind of ignorance we must ride up against and expose for the cancer it is.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.

Unions agree with concept (0.00 / 0)
In a multi union fund ALL UNIONS  must pay or none should pay.

The Unions themselves now agree to that principle.

Sweeney was right.

Now can this be done through collective negotiations? Probably not since the NJEA will not sign on .

So it then must be done legislatively.

The Unions are getting the chance they asked for in collective bargaining. To their credit CWA is trying to make it work, but the other greedy unions will not sign on.

THEY WANT ONLY CWA MEMBERS TO PAY JUST LIKE IN 2006.

But that will not happen this time.

Still Out ofTouch With Reality (0.00 / 0)
If you're so  certain that the unions agree with Sweeney, then why did they just file a LRB complaint against the Christie admnistration for NOT NEGOTIATING HEALTH BENEFITS?
Your disonnetion from the reality of what is going on in New Jersey is beyond laughable.

Read below from the CWA NJ Bargaining unit update:

"Two months after the first day of bargaining, we had the sixth bargaining session with the Christie Administration.

We have not signed off on a single article to date. Governor Christie has made NO proposal on healthcare and has not responded to our proposal.

It turns out that the Governor who "loves collective bargaining" continues to do little else other than to delay, delay, delay.

We also filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge today, over the Governor's refusal to negotiate healthcare - a mandatory subject of collective bargaining."

Yup. You are way out of touch and regurguging Sweeney's talking points, ad nauseum, doesn't make the true or helpful.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.

Unions Have Seen the Light (0.00 / 0)
Christie is playing hardball.

GUESS THE CWA DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!

The Unions are waking up. They have agreed in principle to COLLECTIVELY SETTLE but some of the more greedy unions like NJEA will not sign on.

Read this again please:

This is from Jason Method's column in the APP:

The unions have offered Gov. Chris Christie's administration an opportunity to negotiate health benefit changes collectively, rather than force the state to cut separate deals as each contract is renewed, the leader of one major union said.

The union action marks a counter-move as state leaders approach a self-imposed deadline of June 30 to finalize a deal on two issues affecting state finances.

THE CWA AND SWEENEY AGREE NOW THAT HEALTH CARE CANNOT BE NEGOTIATED BY INDIVIDUAL UNIONS. BUT IF NJEA DOES NOT COME ON BOARD.....

IT WILL BE LEGISLATED!!!

If you want to complain to someone contact the selfish NJEA President .

Do you KNOW the difference... (0.00 / 0)
... betwee an OP-ED and a NEWS story?
You're citing an OP-ED as fact and IGNORING the update from the people actually AT THE TABLE.

Remember THIS line: "We also filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge today, over the Governor's refusal to negotiate healthcare - a mandatory subject of collective bargaining."
from the ACTORS not the Op-Ed columnist?

Doesn't sound like CWA agreed to ANY legislation to me. Oh, and EVERYONE has to pay more. It isn't about CWA "Caving" but about CWA understanding that EVERYONE is paying more.

The battle is about LOSING the RIGHT to negotiate.

You really are an obtuse neophyte when it comes to understanding, outside the context of your Sweeney-Lust, any of what is going on.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.

whoops.... (0.00 / 0)
Meant PERC charge, not NLRB complaint.

If we don't stand together, we fall alone
That didn't last long.
