LD-8: Carl Lewis runs out of ballot options?

by: Rosi Efthim

Fri May 06, 2011 at 03:34:39 PM EDT

via Twitter account of Courier Post political reporter Jane Roh, we learn that the NJ Supreme Court has upheld the decision by LG Kim Guadagno (acting in her dual capacity of Secretary of State, as appointed by Gov. Christie) that 9-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis is ineligible to run for the NJ Senate. This may mean his name will appear on primary ballots but be off of general election ballots.

Developing story.

Perhaps this is the catalyst to inflame, enrage, and energize the Democratic base. How about a write-in campaign?

I they can find 81,000 Alaskans who can spell "Murkowski", we can find at least that many who can spell "Lewis".

It's Burlington County. I doubt if you can find enough Democrats to make a barbershop quartet.

but what would be the point? (4.00 / 1)
He's not just ineligible to be on the ballot, he's ineligible to serve:

No person shall be a member of the Senate who shall not have attained the age of thirty years, and have been a citizen and resident of the State for four years, and of the district for which he shall be elected one year, next before his election.

NJ Constitution, Article IV, Section I.

Thanks, I didn't realize that.

So, what is Plan B?
