Choi declares for 7th district

by: ken bank

Thu May 05, 2011 at 04:36:50 PM EDT

This is a good topic of discussion. We don't know yet what NJ-7 will look like and what towns will be in, and which towns out. What do you think, Blue Jersey? - promoted by Rosi

Former Edison mayor Jun Choi declared his candidacy today for the 7th district congressional race against Len Lance next year.

Is this good for Democrats, and what does this mean for Ed Potosnak, who ran a very credible campaign last year?

Choi is the future of central NJ (0.00 / 0)
And very smart to boot.  A good choice to take on Congressman Lance. Who btw I respect very much.

I've noticed that the DCCC (4.00 / 2)
is sending out a steady stream of anti-Runyan news, but nothing on Lance. Could be many reasons, but I suspect they've concluded Lance won't have a district.

Good catch. (4.00 / 3)
Then again, Runyan is an especially easy target.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

Two (4.00 / 1)
I live in NJ-7, or at least what is now NJ-7. So I'm delighted to see both Ed Potosnak and Jun Choi, both of whom I admire and like personally, engaged in a fight to take this District from Leonard Lance.

With all due respect, Rosi, I... (0.00 / 0)
...would like to see you, Flemington, and the rest of the Hunterdon County part of CD7 as it is currently constituted sent back to CD12 where all of you belong so that the old CD7 and CD12 can be restored, giving Central NJ a competitive open seat and a competitive Rush Holt-Leonard Lance race.  If that means that Frank Pallone's CD6 has to be more competitive as well, so be it.

Imagine the Democratic primary in CD7 if Ed Potosnak were to get the party line in the Somerset County part of the district, Jun Choi were to get it in Middlesex County, and Linda Stender (if she were so inclined to run again) were to get the party line in the Union County part of the district.

My guess is that Stender would most likely win under these circumstances, but I think that if the Menendez and Obama campaigns agreed to remain neutral in these counties and run on their own lines, it could still be a very competitive race.

Will Lance be running in Edison? (0.00 / 0)
I can't see Choi moving to run against Lance (except perhaps within Edison, if the town is split). We also don't know what number an Edison/Lance district would have; we can call it the 7th for now, but it could change.

I'll be supporting and donating to (0.00 / 0)
Ed Potosnak.
