(Cadbury) Egg on my Face?

by: Jay Lassiter

Sun Apr 03, 2011 at 04:28:55 PM EDT

No one was more critical of this process (or of Dem Chairman John Wizniewski's role in the process) than many readers of this blog, self-included. So imagine my delight when the map was revealed. The biggest victims of the day were Governor Christie and Assemblyman Jay Webber who invested heaps of political capital only to emerge vanquished at the hands of Chairman Wisniewski.

Those are Cadbury eggs in the picture. It's a metaphor for the egg on my face. Wiz accepted it with grace and humor because he knows he needs his base (ie: us) excited and united in November. I know I will be.

That said, I like to think all the agitating here at BlueJersey in some way contributed to the calculus that resulted in today's (mostly) good outcome.

The original proposal was dropped (4.00 / 2)
after an immense amount of outrage from the Democratic base. I'd like to think we all, Blue Jersey especially, contributed to that happening and because of all of our actions, the members of the Democratic redistricting committee dropped the proposal to pit Senators Buono and Vitale against each other.

Keep Going (4.00 / 1)
We all need to keep up the hype and get more to join the cause so that we can take back this state and make sure that the right people are in place in November to do that job!

OK, so we got our map... (4.00 / 2)
...now is the time for action. I have been working on the team to elect Marie Corfield to the State Assembly. Marie is the schoolteacher from Flemington who stood up to Chris Christie at a Town Hall last year. Marie has been on The Ed Show, Fox News, and on the front page of the New York Times.

Now, if you're in South Jersey, you have a chance to meet her in person at a meet-and-greet in Moorestown on Sunday, April 10 from 1 to 3 PM. Come to 441 Crescent Avenue and say hello to Marie and her election team.

Directions are on Marie's web site, along with videos of her national TV appearances.  I hope to see you on Sunday, April 10.

Does she live in Flemington/LD16? (0.00 / 0)
If so, that is very exciting, because she has a much better chance of winning in this district than when Flemington was part of LD23.  I think that I said elsewhere that either Joey Novick or Jeff Doshna would be a great component to a Reed Gusciora-Ed Potosnak-Flemington slate of candidates in this district, but I could see Marie fitting in quite nicely as well.  I wish her the best going forward.

Marie lives in the new LD-16 (0.00 / 0)
In Raritan Twp., just outside of Flemington.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

Did you have anything to do... (0.00 / 0)
...the creation of this district, Rosi?  It just seems way too outside-the-box-thinking for the likes of those who were on the LRC.

I know that Reed Gusciora isn't happy about it, but hopefully, someone will sit him down and talk to him about the potential of this district, particularly if he ran for State Senate against Kip Batemen with people like Ed Potosnak and Marie Corfield.

Considering Bateman's disappointing reversal on marriage equality, Reed would be the perfect candidate to make him pay for that vote and I while I am not in any position to speak for Steven Goldstein and Garden State Equality, I would think that they could help Reed, Marie, and Ed (if he agreed to run as well) raise a lot of money for this race.

And if Reed continues to pout and talk about carpetbagging his way back to LD15, so be it.  Ed could just as easily be a very strong State Senate candidate as well and there is no doubt in my mind that a great Assembly running mate for Marie could be recruited from Princeton as well.

It is about time that Flemington found its way into a district where Democrats actually have a chance in hell of winning.  My only regret was that they couldn't find a way to squeeze my town of Dunellen into the district.  However, once Bound Brook was pulled into LD23, there was no chance that we would get into LD16.

I guess that I should be thankful that I am still represented by Scutari, Stender, and Green in LD22 and wasn't pulled into LD23.  That would have been terrible.

I hope Reed runs... (0.00 / 0)
....and I hope he wins.  the scenario you laid out is a fascinating one that would, i agree, be more difficult (but virtuous) for Reed to manage.  But either way, here's hoping he's still around next year.

Jay, you crack me up! :) (0.00 / 0)
Thank you to the Blue Jersey community.  While the rest of us were busy with work and other things, you were working extremely hard to keep the pressure on to really keep folks honest in Trenton.  The result is what we have today.

You are the best!

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

Wow, carolh - Thanks for that shout-out. (0.00 / 0)
Yes, there was considerable pressure put on a situation that was troubling for what looked like opportunism for an individual, and loss of some of the backbone that this legislature - let's face it - cannot afford to lose.

Now, I'm going to shout-out to the organizers; y'all know who you are, and I'm so proud of your continued good judgment, decency, strength and strategic ability.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.
