Sorry folks but this story is two years old.  It got little coverage in the paper press, but PolitickerNj had it covered and provided ample column space.  In fact, ELEC refused to release funds to Lonegan pending its investigation of the charges Lonegan lied (which he did) about his involvment with AFP.  For several weeks ELEC held back money from the Lonegan campaign until it decided to release the funds without a satisfactory explanation.

My guess is they were pressured by Republicans and the Christie campaign to release the funds because everyone knew Christie was going to wipe the political map with Lonegan's wig and that party unity was more important that saving money for taxpayers.
