Tornoe Cartoon: Christie Tries to Steamroll NJ Unions

What I like about Rob Tornoe's cartoons is that in addition to being his own sharp observations in handy drawn form, there is often his own commentary in text, like his post-with-cartoon at his own humor site, Delaware Punchline. Rob's life is anchored in Delaware these days, but he's still got his eye on New Jersey. Rob's take on the CWA negotiations:

His Arrogance believes in collective bargaining for public employees like Don Corleone making them an offer they can't refuse. I hope CWA President Hetty Rosenstein doesn't own any horses.

I sent this cartoon to a friend who teaches at UW - Madison.  I was surprised when she told me they were not unionized - too elite to deal with the scrum.

I knew that TA's were unionized and helped organize the protests.

She said the groundswell was great.  We both agreed that it was not getting as much press as it should.  Seems like MSNBC is doing most of the coverage.  She said the state newspaper was a rag, but the Wisc-Sentinel (sp?) was doing decent coverage.

She had funny stories to tell: the guy with the tractor/manure spreader lost his driver's licence years ago.  So do you need a driver's license to spread manure?

She, her kid and her dog somehow got into the capitol building.  Shook hands with Jesse Jackson and her pooch didn't poop (tho maybe he should have, right near Gov. Walker's door) but got people more excited.  Dogs for Democracy!

We talked a while about the difference between Wisc. & NJ tactics, but I had too much wine by that time to get really into it.

So, Firsty, maybe these rallies "feel good," as you suggest.  But in Wisc. they are motivational.  The recall efforts are working.  My friend told me there is a web site for recall Walker.  Everyone knows that he can't be recalled until after his first year in offce, but organizers now have a database from which to contact people.
