Transparent political opportunist, not an ideologue

by: Adam L

Tue Jan 25, 2011 at 09:30:00 AM EST

With the latest bit of grandstanding by our grandstanding Governor yesterday on the 38th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision, there's been talk about the potential blowback against Christie in terms of him being viewed as a ideologue.  In speaking at the New Jersey Right to Life rally yesterday, Christie really demonstrated not that he is an ideologue, but that he is a political opportunist and nothing more.

Put another way, Chris Christie is all about one thing:  "Will this help Chris Christie's future political ambitions or not?"

more below the fold

Adam L :: Transparent political opportunist, not an ideologue
He has had a tremendous opportunity to address real structural issues with the state budget, with the property tax structure, with the pay-to-play rules and government corruption and with so many other things.  And yet, he has chosen to forego taking any real stand or put forth any real policy position that will increase jobs, reform government corruption and the lack of transparency (something he has made even worse in his first year), moving away from "gimmicks" to close the budget gap or, really, help make the lives of people around this state better - that is, unless you are making tons of money and haven't felt the economic impact of this Great Recession.

Instead, he has demonized those whom he disagrees with, put on a fake show as "Governor YouTube" (on taxpayer money) and basically ignored the things that really impact New Jerseyans in order to corporatize one of the country's top public education systems with taxpayer dollars.

Yesterday's move was just another empty political calculation for an empty suit politician who hasn't made one tough decision or taken one action since his brother first bought him the US Attorney job a decade ago.  And in this latest charade, it isn't just those who believe that the Government should stay out of the bedroom or doctor's office, but also those real ideologues who think the Government should be telling you what you should or shouldn't be doing with your own complicated personal and private medical decisions.

Christie's speech and actions weren't anything that should be considered a major ideological shift - not by those on the left who deride his actions, and not by those on the right who may applaud his speech.  He is a fraud.  A shapeshifter who will bend to anyone that he thinks can help him and his political aspirations in the future.  He will sell out the right (and their basic rights) just as quickly as he will sell out the left and theirs.

Time and time again, his actions have demonstrated this, and they will continue to do so.  That isn't leadership.  It is failure.

You said it all (4.00 / 1)
Nice work, Adam. You just wrote the stump speech for whoever runs against CC in 2013.

The GOP's big plan (4.00 / 2)
Gingrich said it aloud just last month: destroy the public unions in order to defeat the Dems. http://www.salon.com/technolog...

This is what Christie's emphasis is all about. He's coordinating his attacks with the national GOP, probably through Rove.

It's all about politics for this guy. Whether he is running as a dark-horse in 2012, running as Gingrich's VP in 2012, or just gunning for the 2016 nomination, he's outta here.

NJ citizens are just the extras for the campaign film he's planning. These You Tube clips are merely highlights.

Damn these Republicans are so f'in transparent. Why don't the Dems DO something about it?

fortunately, the Dems are on board (0.00 / 0)
so it's a win-win
