Receipts & Memos of Christie's "pattern of abuse" luxury travel as US Attorney

Chris Christie hotel receipts via OPRA
All the documents, in larger, readable form, are after the jump

Here are 14 reciepts and memos generated for Chris Christie's travel and lodging in his last job, as US Attorney for New Jersey. According to the Inspector General of the US Dept of Justice, Christie engaged in a "pattern of abuse" in luxury travel spending on himself billed to taxpayers while he held that job (read the Report). Living it up on the government dime, as emptywheel put it so well. These 14 docs came to us via a Blue Jersey reader; they were obtained under a public records request.

You've read some of this already. You know that this is standard operating procedure for Christie - hypocrisy, doing as he pleases (even when you're paying), and traveling all over the country preaching austerity to GOP faithful (but don't look too close).

Use your scrollbar to review all 14 documents; receipts from several luxury hotels, and memos from Christie explaining repeatedly that he was unable to secure government rate for his lodging.

Orlando Travel (0.00 / 0)
I can't speak for the other hotels, but when I was working on government contracts in Orlando around the same time as Christie was there, there were plenty of hotels with the government per diem rate.  Sure, they were not near the convention center and Disney, but it was cheaper for me to rent a car and drive than to stay at the expensive hotels.

The fanciest digs (4.00 / 1)
Having attended some 40 conferences in Washington, DC, and the immediate surrounding area over the years and always using the government rate, I can say the hotel accommodations were very good. The government rate does not impose a subpar hotel, it just disallows the fanciest digs which Christie apparently thinks he deserves.

Are you (1.00 / 1)
factoring in that Christie is limited to hotels with reinforced mattresses?

(Sorry. I had to...)

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

He's not a bad governor because of his size. Reagan wasn't a bad president because of his age. Bush  wasn't a bad president because he was stupid. Oh, wait.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

" Maybe the Governor should understand what the word austere means before he asks others to practice austerity.I would pay attention to #4

1. severe in manner or appearance; uncompromising; strict; forbidding: an austere teacher.
2. rigorously self-disciplined and severely moral; ascetic; abstinent: the austere quality of life in the convent.
3. grave; sober; solemn; serious: an austere manner.
4. without excess, luxury, or ease; simple; limited; severe: an austere life.
5. severely simple; without ornament: austere writing.
6. lacking softness; hard: an austere bed of straw.
7. rough to the taste; sour or harsh in flavor. "

I'm sure they were just crossing "t's" and dotting "i's" on paper work to complete a personal mortgage loan

please send this stuff to Josh Marshall at TPM and to MSNBC (I like Rachael the best, but she may not be the best one).

And maybe to Fluffy at MTP to put in the Fluffy Files for the next time he interviews the GOP "rising star."  Oh wait... he doesn't ask follow-up questions.

Interesting what the rest (0.00 / 0)
of America think of all this ...http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2624277/posts

The article (AP) is pretty straightforward ... (0.00 / 0)
Oh you mean the comments LOL. Interesting that you think the comment section of freerepublic.com is "the rest of America".

I'm looking at comments at freerepublic with a lot of name-calling, immature ugliness like making fun of people's names - Moochelle for Mrs. Obama, rats for Democrats - a lot of misspelling and punctuation issues, some gleeful juvenile thoughts like putting bed bugs in the POTUS linens. Then I pretty much stopped reading.

What I'm interested in about the Tea Party and far-right is that it engaged a chunk of people, by the hundreds of thousands, people who had never voted before or seldom voted. From a civic perspective, that does not suck. But I don't have any faith that the 'movement' will get anywhere if its people don't stop screeching, making themselves look ridiculous by making fun of people and waving the Constitution in people's faces as though they have a clue what it or any of the nation's great documents are about. Incidentally, I have a similar beef with some of the people on our side, too, and have taken considerable crap saying so.
