Christie pension/health benefit" BOO-HOO"getting old

by: firstamend07

Tue Oct 12, 2010 at 07:18:16 PM EDT

Once again the Governor comes out and complains about the Legislature not " moving" pension and benefit reforms for "his" government workers.

Once again the press backs off from asking him," If you want reform now then why do you not open negotiations with the unions and get reform without input from the Legislature?"

Does Christie not understand that pension and health benefit reform can occur INDEPENDENT of the Legislature if he simply negotiates the changes during the coming contract negotiations which he can start immediately?

His whining on this issue has gotten old.

CWA Ready to Start Contract Talk (0.00 / 0)
In October 2005 Governor Corzine asked for contract negotiations to start early so that he could have a new state worker contract in place by the time of his budget address in February 2006. Negotiations began and Corzine got the CWA to giveback on payment for health care benefits and also an increase in pension deductions.

Governor Christie now has the same option.

All he has to do is make the phone call and CWA will be at the negotiation table.

But apparently the Governor does not have the phone number! He seems more content to just complain about the Legislature.

Does he honestly think people are not going to start seeing that he is skirting his responsibility?

So this is an appeal to Governor Christie ( I am sure he reads this site!) . Forget the Legislature and start negotiating any changes you want directly with the people who are going to be effected. If yo uare fearful of negotiating call Governro Corzine for some advice ,BUT STOP COMPLAING ABOUT THINGS THAT YOU YOURSELF CAN HANDLE!

Pension Deform (0.00 / 0)
As a CWA member and a state employee, I am sick of racing to the bottom of the pack!  I don't care what OTHER states get.  I don't care what OTHER private workers get!  I am a NJ taxpayer.  I want ALL businesses in NJ to pay their fair share of taxes.  I want the RICH to pay THEIR fair share of taxes.  Why should the top 1% only pay 40% of the tax burden when they own 80% of the wealth????  The other 99% have to pay 60% of the state's income tax on only 20% of what's left of the state's wealth!
Before the Pension gets touched again...before I am forced to pay one extra penny, the state should be forced to HONOR their committment.  They should be forced to live up to their part of the bargain.  They were all too happy to let us work for LESS than our private sector counterparts.  Our contract said we would accept below average wages in return for a SHARED contribution retirement plan, and health care.  We even accepted PAYING for our health care to the tune of $4 Billion!  Now, after 16 years of refusals to pay into the Pension system, the Legislature's response is to penalize the VICTIMS!  And now we want to NEGOTIATE MORE PENALTIES???  Don't look to ME for a nod on that!  The State owes the money they STOLE from our fund.  Skim a little of their slush fund money and apply it to our Pension Fund!
