Chris Christie Looking For a New Gig?

by: vmars

Wed Sep 08, 2010 at 10:33:00 AM EDT

Just a few weeks ago Chris Christie dismissed any talk about running for President or even Vice President, but there have been plenty of rumblings along the right wing of the country that he should consider it.

Now Christie is heading off to Iowa, the first stop of anyone considering a run.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, one of the GOP's most-sought after stars following his 2009 victory, is hitting the road to unveil a string of endorsements in the coming weeks, POLITICO has learned. ...

There, he'll boost gubernatorial candidate Terry Branstad - a trip that is sure to amplify the Christie-for-president buzz, although he's emphatically insisted that he is not making a White House run.

The trip marks a new phase in the nine-month tenure of the former federal prosecutor who won a solid victory over incumbent Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine in November 2009, a victory that presaged a significant change in GOP fortunes.

Christie for Republican VP candidate (0.00 / 0)
Let's encourage Christie to run on the Republican ticket in 2012.  That ticket will go down in ignominious defeat, tarnishing all who were on it, Christie will be out of state a lot, and he will have to resign one year early!  It's win-win-win!

I don't know. Given the fact that the GOP is fighting with itself to see whether Tea Party or calmer heads prevail and given it's got nothing but ineffectual spokespersons (Michael Steele) or crackpot loonytunes with lying/legal issues (Palin, Beck, Limbaugh) to lead them, you can understand how Christie would have a poster-boy's fast rise.

But I just don't think the paint's dry on him yet - even for the national GOP which so badly needs heroes. Blowing $400 million is nimrod stuff, even for the big-spending Republicans. I don't know if they're going to covet him the same way they might have a few weeks ago. I'm interested to see.

What balls on this guy... (0.00 / 0)
9 months in, and he's testing the waters in Iowa and making more national media news appearances than any previous gov of NJ...

... and then he claims the RTTT hearings are a waste of time and the legislature should be "working."

Is there any time in his schedule to actually, you know, govern?

So simple, a six-year old can do it (0.00 / 0)
Christie has plenty of time for these extra-curricular activities.  After all, he's governing as if he were a six-year-old.  Kind of like the way Dubya governed when he was in power.  Remember: Republicans don't do nuance, so the world is a lot simpler for them.

NEED TO INVESTIGATE WHO IS PAYING FOR THESE TRIPS (0.00 / 0)
The Governor was elected to govern here. If he has to leave the State for " official " business fine ,but if he is running around the country on the taxpayers " dime " then the taxpayers should know.

He should produce disclosure forms and vouchers for these trips. He should also not accept his salary as Governor for the time that he is away. Taxpayers are not paying him to go politic!

Since he has established himself as the ethics governor then he should be held accountable.

If the Republican Party wants him then they have to pick up the tab.

I hope that financial disclosure forms are demanded from him regarding these trips.
