Let's Not Lose Sight of The Important Fact Here

by: vmars

Wed Sep 01, 2010 at 01:45:13 PM EDT

There's been a lot of talk about lies, who said what when, getting to the bottom of things, changing stories, etc.  All of this can get confusing and obscure the basic facts of the Christie-Shundler blunder.

The Christie Administration's incompetence cost New Jersey's schools almost half a billion dollars.

Really, do we need to focus much on anything else?

Maybe... (0.00 / 0)
the 400-600 million the Corzine administration wasn't able to secure either?

But I get the feeling it's not so much the money that people care about here, it's largely political...

Why do I get that feeling? I just can't remember seeing any diaries about Race to the Top when the Corzine administration's application failed.

If it was REALLY about the money, one could argue both adminstrations cost us the same.

failure on the merits (4.00 / 1)
is one thing.  Failure based on what happened here - is WAY different.

And you are more than smart enough to know that.

Scott Garrett - on the wrong side of, well, everything.

yeah (0.00 / 0)
From what I hear Christie had told Corzine to hold the RTTT application until Christie was in office.  They did until they discovered that if you didn't apply in round one you didn't get to apply in round two.  So they rushed an application to be sure they had filed.

Had Christie gotten his way we wouldn't have been eligible for the one he screwed up.

Don't know about that... (0.00 / 0)
As I remember it, the NJEA pressured Corzine NOT to apply in the first round.

And then when the public found out, they went ballistic and Corzine was forced to apply.

I pretty sure this all happened before the election, so I'm not sure how the Christie admin could have influenced anything... (Considering Corzine thought he could win)

Just checked... (3.00 / 1)
Hopeful's link. It does seem that phase one was this year... (my memory must really be going)...

So I take it back, maybe the incoming Chrisite administration did influence the Corzine application...

But I'll poke around some more, I definitely remember seeing editorials written about how not applying was a silly move, etc. etc....

I Doubt That Christie Really Wanted The Money.... (0.00 / 0)
...after all the funding was targeted at the lowest performing school districts which happen to be in poorer areas of the state.....you know, where the minorities tend to live.

Christie also wasn't too pleased with the first version that Schundler came up with as it was too generous to the teachers in some way that Christie couldn't deal with.   In  THAT version all the data were present AND there would have been an additional 50 points given for the bit that Christie demanded be removed.

Christie screwed this up BIG TIME and it's about his own pride, ideology, politics and hidden agendas.   Now Schundler isn't willing to die for the cause of protecting Christie's ass.....

I only pray that the legislature holds REAL hearings and subpoena's all of the parties so that we get testimony under oath.

The 400 million mustn't be forgotten.....but now the stakes are even higher.

Frankly, this totally confirms what people here have been saying about Christie for years, he's an unethical bully who's great at talking his way out of things for which he should be held accountable.    Maybe this time he won't beat the rap.

btw  Trying to blame any part of this on Corzine is so lame as to render me rotflmao.

If he really didn't want the money... (0.00 / 0)
the application wouldn't have improved... (from the first one)

I'd LOVE to see the application scored that the NJEA agreed to... that would put an end to most of THIS nonsense.

As for the nonsense about Chrisite claiming his admin told the Obama admin (when Schundler says otherwise) about the error.

That's bullshit, (excuse me), and he should be held accountable. (I still say he didn't have much to fear in the first place) but if he lied to try to deflect blame to the Obama admin, and I like the gov., he should resign.

At this point, unfortunately, I'm not sure who I believe. I'd like to say I believe Schundler, but I have a hard time believing that Christie got his aid(s) to lie for him (there's one woman who says Christie is right and Schundler is lying)

What's utterly annoying is that we may never know...
