Christie on the defensive about Reform Jersey Now

  • The Governor tried to distance himself from a no-disclosure front group started by his inner circle and designed to sway public opinion to him. Says it's nice knowing somebody agrees with you "when you're you're getting hit by an $8 million 2-by-4 by the CWA and the NJEA". Sen. Steve Sweeney is introducing legislation today to force RJN to operate with more transparency: "I'm not arguing when the governor says, 'I got beaten up by all these groups.' But you knew who was beating him up."

  • What Reform Jersey Now sent in the mail to Hopeful.

  • Peel back the fake Ronald Reagan mask ... and get Richard Nixon.

Dems in House, Senate face growing to-do list

  • When Congress returns from July 4th break, there's a war to be paid for, education funds to save school jobs in NJ, bonus Medicare funding Christie's counting on and more.

6-day black bear hunt in northern NJ

  • The last time NJ approved a bear hunt - 2005 - so many irate animal rights advocates, hunters, farmers and homeowners showed up the hearing had to be moved to the State Museum auditorium in Trenton to accommodate everybody. This time, (relative) crickets.

No wonder the Governor wanted to dismantle SCI

  • Governor Christie's privatization task force says they can save over $200 million by privatizing just about everything including the toilet paper. They start off talking about privatizing the Motor Vehicle Commission. But SCI has the facts in writing on the last time we went there.

Dropping New Jerseyans from life-saving antriretroviral HIV/AIDS drugs

  • The new budget doesn't make room for about 1,000 people from NJ's AIDS Drug Distribution Program, who won't meet the new tighter income eligibility requirements. Most of these people, by the way, are uninsured.

N.J. Turnpike Authority warns workers of layoffs

  • Nearly two dozen NJ Turnpike Authority employees have been notified they could be laid off in September when their positions are eliminated, part of a plan to abolish a total of 67 this year in a budget cutting move.

  • She makes a public education argument.

    Newark Library Sees Drastic Cuts

  • After a $2.45 million cut in Mayor Booker's budget, the state's largest municipal library will see service cuts this summer including layoffs, furlough days, the permanent closing of two branches and the Main Library's opening 3 to 4 days a week.

Swastikas & racial slurs spray-painted in Monroe Twp neighborhood

  • Another such incident came less than a year ago there, when obscene references to President Obama and African-Americans were marked along fences of 5 families. NAACP wants this treated as a bias crime.

Did BP sell out justice for 33 New Jerseyans for windfall profit?

  • Senators Menendez & Lautenberg are asking Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for a federal investigation into reports that British Petroleum was behind the early release of the Libyan national who bombed Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988, killing 270 - all to secure a lucrative oil contract with Libya.

NJ-12: Rush Holt telephone Town Hall

  • Rush Holt will be taking constituent calls for a Q & A next Tuesday.

NJ-3: Internal poll shows John Adler ahead

  • Adler's poll shows 17% over Jon Runyan 51-34%, with a surprisingly high 12% for the independent candidate running with Tea Party support, Peter DeStafano.

    Rest in Peace

  • One of our Marines, from Camden, has died in a swimming accident at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba while serving there. RIP Lance Cpl. Giovani "Gio" Cruz. He was 22.

    Is Runyan seriously running? (4.00 / 1)
Now that Runyan is being challenged from the lunatic fringe of the right, can we expect him to move further to the right?  Interesting to see that they are calling him a RINO even though he parrots Palin's talking points continuously.

Runyan has a slick looking blog on his web site which is updated frequently.  But his handlers apparently don't care for any type of discussion.  I posted this comment on his blog entry about his press conference:

Please be specific on what programs you would cut to make up for the loss in revenue and jobs from your tax cuts. Also, please explain why defense is exempted from your proposed cuts. Thank you.

    The link is here.

The post was made on June 30.  So far, no response.

He also removed a post I made that was more critical.  That's his prerogative - after all, he's paying for the blog/website, and I have no issue with the censorship.  But I'd certainly like to see him in more debates with Adler and more interaction with what's left of the legitimate press corps.

    Still sitting on the governor's desk (0.00 / 0)
Tax incentives to help people purchase homes and thus increase the sale of new and foreclosed properties helps individuals, neighborhoods, and the state. Reducing our stock of unsold homes is the first step toward reviving new home construction which leads to higher employment, a reviving NJ economy, and an end to declining home prices. With the federal government's stimulus funds soon coming to an end, it is increasingly up to the states to find creative ways to grow their economies. Our legislature has passed such a measure, and it is now up to our governor to sign the bill. I will take as a positive sign the fact that the bill is still sitting on the governor's desk.

"The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." - Sen. Ted Kennedy

    Lame piece by Riley (0.00 / 0)
She doesn't answer how schools are going to make up lost resources.  And if the property tax is a bad way to fund the schools, she doesn't argue for an increase in state aid, or an increase in state taxes, to fill the gap.

Overall, a lame piece.  Not surprising from someone in Sweeney's district.

    I agree about Celeste Riley (3.00 / 2)
This piece reveals just what a light weight she is.  In fact, Riley would have been better served by taking a pass on that article.

If she wan't do really do something for the taxpayers, she should take on the expensive games that go on in her district which is NOTORIOUS for double dipping and  patronage nonsense.

And she could start with her running mates.
