Write In Campaign for Nia Gill in June 6th Dem primary

by: jo

Given that:
1. Bob Menendez is assured the nomination for Corzine's senate seat,
2. NJ has never sent a woman to the senate,
3. according to jennypenny women elected Corzine by 20 points (and men Forrester by 3 pts), and
4. all the buzz on this site and some in the MSM around the possibility of Corzine appointing Nia Gill if he could figure a way to not appoint Menendez,

I call on Dem women and progressive Dems to make a point with the party leadership by writing in Nia Gill on June 6th!

I already mailed my absentee ballot.

Although I hope you'll vote for him in fall.

Nia Gill (0.00 / 0)
Nia Gill is a fine state senator and, in my opinion, would make an outstanding U.S. Senator one day. I'd love to see her make a run for the House of Representatives first, though, as part of that trajectory. Does anybody know which congressional district she's part of?

Gill is in the 8th CD (0.00 / 0)
I completely agree - she would be a great Congresswoman.  I am fairly sure she hails from Montclair, which is in the 8th Congressional District, currently being represented by Bill Pascrell.  Anybody know what kind of succession is planned for him for whenever he chooses to retire?  I would presume that Paterson politics dominates the district, but that is purely speculation.

No, you're right. (0.00 / 0)
Paterson's population is approximately a quarter of the district, so Girgenti, Steele, and Pou are presumptive successors, as well as Torres, Paterson's mayor.  Gill's problem in the 8th would be that Passaic dominates the district, and she's from Essex.  Secondly, her LD is split between the 8th and 10th (I think), so part of her base won't even be eligble to vote in the 8th district primary.

I kind of like this idea.  I like Ms Gill, too.  I have to ask if you have fully vetted her for a Senate run.  That's not a knock, by the way, nor a criticism, but just good campaign practice.

full vetting? (0.00 / 0)
What do you have in mind?  I've looked at her record and like what I see.  There are surely parts of her record that I don't know about, and I'm not in a position to know more than what is in the public record.

What do I mean? (0.00 / 0)
I mean nothing terribly important at this juncture.  I'm supportive of State Senator Gill, but I know nothing about her except her record.  I guess that's what I mean.

Please don't get me wrong.  When Governor Corzine was still ostensibly looking for his replacement, still checking out who he would appoint, I was one of the people who was supportive of appointing State Senator Gill.  I liked the idea then and I like her now.  I wasn't trying to imply anything.

I like it. (0.00 / 0)
I think this sounds like a good way to liven up my voting experience tomorrow.  Plus it provides an opportunity to test the reporting-out of these no-paper-trail machines.

To insanity... and beyond! (Apologies to Buzz Lightyear.)
