Bonus Quote of the Day: "We need her vote"

by: Jason Springer

Tue Jun 22, 2010 at 08:44:16 PM EDT

Apparently nobody told Assemblyman DeCroce that Assemblywoman McHose wasn't on board with the budget agreement that has been struck. We've heard about conservative opposition and now some of that talk is turning into lost votes. DeCroce was pretty blunt about McHose's defection, which seemed to catch him off guard:
"We need her vote"
They need her vote because the margin is razor thin and every vote counts:
Sources close to Democrats say Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-East Orange) has eight of her members primed to vote for Christie's budget as part of the restoration deal leadership struck this week with the GOP governor.
Assemblyman Carroll also has said he will oppose the budget, meaning they now need 10 Democrats in the Assembly to vote in favor in order to pass the budget. It may not be a done deal yet.

Are they "bullies"? (0.00 / 0)
So if these two wingnjuts shut down the government will Christie call them "bullies"?

It seems the National GOP takes its marching orders from Rush Limbaugh and Glemn Beck, while the State GOP is taking its marching orders from Steve Lonegan and Paul Mulshine.

BTW, my understanding is that Christie despises Lonegan and loathes Mulshine, even more than he does school teachers.

Bizarre logic (0.00 / 0)
Carroll and McHose are renegades in the NJGOP. Most are establishment hacks willing to bend over and do Christie's bidding.

well, those two more Dems need a new concession (0.00 / 0)
If they have to deliver votes they need to get something. For example, maybe Christie signing the women's funding before the main budget vote, though I haven't been able to follow closely enough to know what's going on with that.

Show some spine (0.00 / 0)
If the Republicans can not provide the full complement of votes agreed to in the budget deal with the Democrats, then Democrats should insist on further concessions for their providing the additional needed margin. On my list are family planning and medical screening services, Public Advocate's Office, NJN, libraries, and public transportation. These items can be added to the budget with no loss by decreasing the excessive tax incentives and loopholes to business.

Let's see if our leaders show some spine. These programs are important enough to justify a few days of shut-down if that is what is necessary.
