Our Democratic Leaders are Killing SCI and NJN

Make no mistake about it.  By abdicating their responsibility as the majority party to form the budget and resigning themselves to CC's budget without a fight, New Jersey Democratic leadership has full responsibility for the death of these two fine organizations.

Legislature does not "form" budget (0.00 / 0)
The State budget every year is created by the Executive Branch and then it is approved by the Legislative Branch.

The Democrats in the Legislature can offer changes but those changes must be agreed to by the Executive Branch.

If the Executive Branch says no then the only recourse is a override ,which needs 2/3rds approval.

SO THERE IS YOUR GOVERNMENT LESSON!

It makes no damn difference if Sweeney and Oliver present a whole new budget document if that document cannot get the approval of either the Governor or a good portion of the Republican legislature.

It is a shame that some "progressives" only want to fight wind mills. Futile attempts just for the sake of making futile attempts is a waste of time that the taxpayers ( remember them? ) will not put up with.

It is Christies budget unless an override can occur.

I see no big push from the progressives or from the 30,000 rally singers and dancers to push for any overrides!

I will agree with you on one thing. I do not like the budget either. But please look at the political reality and understand how the process works.

Christie has the veto and the Democrats do not have the numbers to override.

Um... (0.00 / 0)
It's one issue if you believe him or not...

But the governor has said repeatedly that he will consider any budget change so long as the 29.3 billion cap is adhered to...

Of course the legislature forms a budget (0.00 / 0)

They may choose to form the same budget presented to them by the Governor or they can form an alternative one.

By choosing to adopt CC's budget and not putting forward an alternative one, they take responsibility for the decisions in the budget.

CC has responsibility for originally proposing to kill SCI and NJN, but the Democratic leadership accepted equal responsibility by not proposing an alternative budget that preserves these fine organizations.

By the way, fighting to preserve NJN and SCI is not fighting wind mills.   It's a shame that you think being a Sweeney supporter is more important than standing up for what is more important.
