Note: Updates are at the bottom of the post

Results are coming in from around the state.  House results at NJ.com:

At 9:02PM, Runyan at 6022 (55%) to Murphy at 4887 (45%). Not a strong showing by Runyan but a lead is a lead.

In NJ6, Little at 2,806 (53%) leads Gooch at 2448 (47%.) I find that surprising. It is 25% Reporting.

Lance is at only 56% but easily leads the nearest of his challengers.  Just 5% reporting there.

Adler is at 77% with 26% reporting.

There are lots of interesting primaries in other states -- I recommend Swing State Project, Talking Points Memo, and Daily Kos.

Update (9:14pm): Forgot to check NJ12, where teabagger Corsi leads Sipprelle 55%-45% with 19% reporting.

Update (9:42) Runyan wins 56% to 44% with 98% reporting. Little still leads Gooch and Corsi still leads Sipprelle, but lots of districts still to report.

Update (9:58): Sipprelle just pulled ahead by a few hundred votes with 63% reporting.  Little has a nearly eight hundred vote lead with 43% reporting.

Update (10:13): Sipprelle remains ahead 6,506 to 6,113 with 71% reporting.  Little leads 5,639 to 4,981 with 64% reporting. I have no idea what districts are still out and whom they would favor.

Update (10:30) Gooch keeps creeping closer, but Little still leads 6000 to 5568 with 77% reporting. This is going to be very close.
Sipprelle is still leading.

Update (10:48) Photo finish coming! Little 6171, Gooch 5866 with 86% reporting.

Update (11:10) The AP/NJ.com results say it's Little 6674 to Gooch 6579 with 99% reporting. Contradictory headlines have flashed by at PolitickerNJ but I think the small Little lead is correct. I imagine there will be a recount but it looks like Little will just barely make it.

Sipprelle pulled away in the late reporting districts and ended up winning 8,800 (54%) to 7521 (46%).

Update (11:46) I should say Runyan ended up with 60%, better than the earlier reports.

Adler statement (0.00 / 0)
"Washington is broken, and New Jersey voters understand that we need bipartisan solutions to create private sector jobs, clean up Washington and lower our budget deficit.  Over the course of the summer and fall, I will continue to hold weekly public events and listen to local families, seniors, veterans and small business owners."

In short he plans to run as a moderate Republican, opposes any attempts to create jobs by the government, and thinks students, workers, and other Democratic groups are not even worth mentioning.

(better) Adler statement on Runyan (0.00 / 0)
Geoff Mackler, campaign manager for the Adler for Congress, issued the following statement after Jon Runyan secured the Republican nomination in New Jersey's 3rd Congressional district this evening:

"I hope Jon Runyan shows more respect for his fellow citizens starting tomorrow than we have seen from him in the last fifteen years.  Most Americans play by the rules, pay their taxes on time, and vote in elections.  Mr. Runyan hid from voters, insulted veteran groups, and refused to answer how he stood on the major issues of the day.  The last thing we need in Washington is another wealthy extremist trying to buy an election and continuing to ignore the struggles middle class families and seniors face in these challenging times. We need problem solvers to fix what's wrong with Washington, not folks like Jon Runyan looking to protect the privileges of the special interests."

BACKGROUND:
Runyan is skipping out on paying his fair share of property taxes thanks to the four donkeys he's raising on his estate and the seven cords of firewood he harvested. Last year Runyan paid $57,000 on the five acres of land that contains his home, but only paid $468 in taxes on the remaining 20 acres of his property.  [Philadelphia Inquirer, 1/22/10]

Runyan has repeatedly been late on property tax payments. On 33 different occasions Runyan was late paying his taxes. [Newark Star Ledger, 5/12/10]

Too early for negative campaigning (0.00 / 0)
Sorry to see that Adler has started the negative campaigning so soon.  We know what Adler is against.  He needs to tell us what he is for.  We need to know who to vote for in November.

I get it, but (0.00 / 0)
I don't think I can vote for a Republican ever again in my life.  They are just too nuts, so I think I will vote for Adler in the fall, because I do not want the repugs with subpoena power.

But I won't be happy about it.

My god, that's a sad little statement. (0.00 / 0)
How does this campaign expect Democratic voters to have fire in the belly when all the candidate shows he has is acid stomach?

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

Holt statement on his primary victory (0.00 / 0)

Representative Rush Holt (D-12) tonight secured the Democratic Party nomination to run for Congress this November.

"From helping small businesses create good jobs and helping grow green jobs, to cracking down on the excessive greed of Big Banks and Wall Street that helped cause the economic crisis to making sure our young people have the math and science skills they need to compete in the global economy, I've worked hard to make sure the American Dream belongs to everyone.  It is a privilege to represent New Jersey's 12th District in Congress, and I look forward to a spirited campaign on the issues and concerns facing Central New Jersey families," said Rep. Holt.  "I will continue to serve my constituents honestly and to work diligently to achieve results for New Jersey."

Rep. Holt also pointed to a letter sent yesterday to both candidates for the Republican Party nomination in which he asks for the nominee to pledge to join him in running a campaign that the voters will not only be proud of but excited to take part in.

"Let's lay out our plans for rebuilding America, creating jobs and opportunities for our families, protecting our environment for the future, building an education system that is second to none and ensuring that the American dream belongs to all of us." Holt said.

Potosnak calls on Lance to appear together (0.00 / 0)
Ed Potosnak, who gratefully accepted his party's nomination tonight with a victory in the Democratic primary, began the next stage of his campaign by calling on his Republican challenger, incumbent Leonard Lance, to join him on the campaign trail.

"These are tough times, and there's a job to get done," Potosnak said following tonight's election results. "People are tired of the old gotcha politics. That's why I'm inviting Mr. Lance to campaign together with me. We'll meet voters together, tell them where we stand, and what we think are the best solutions for the problems facing our country."

Potosnak said that a campaign that departed from the status quo of partisan bickering would lead to "common sense solutions, better ideas, and would show respect for the voters of our district.
"If Lance accepts this invitation and joins me in talking to voters directly, I think people will find less of the pointless partisan rhetoric and more real answers. The people we wish to serve deserve nothing less."

"I've never held or sought public office, and I'm running for Congress because of the issues facing our families, businesses, and communities: they include getting the economy moving with good jobs, taking on the greed of Big Oil, Big Banks and Wall Street, and making sure our children have access to a world class education. But most of all, I want to restore fiscal sanity to government.

Little v Gooch (4.00 / 1)
"In NJ6, Little at 2,806 (53%) leads Gooch at 2448 (47%.) I find that surprising. It is 25% Reporting. "

Lonegan predicted Little would beat Gooch.

Fun little story (4.00 / 1)
My boss lives in the 12th.  He asked me to help him decipher the vote-by-mail Republican ballot, esp the many candidates.  He knows I'm a Dem and active in politics.

He asked who to vote for for Congress.  I told him I didn't know either guy, but one guy had the R line and one was a Tea Party candidate.  He liked the idea of smaller government, so voted for the Teabagger.  One less vote for the establishment R. My gift to Rush.

Wis: Republicans in disarray (4.00 / 1)
Not sure what Christie has to do with it, but I agree with this from Democratic State Committee Chairman John Wisniewski...

One thing is clear from tonight's results, the Republican Party in New Jersey is in disarray.  Despite Governor Christie's supposedly unifying force, the Republican Party rank and file turned their backs on the party's standard bearers.
