New Survey USA Poll has Christie at 63% disapproval

by: Jason Springer

Fri Apr 23, 2010 at 07:21:22 PM EDT

Survey USA is out with a new poll that shows Governor Christie's approval rating upside down. Here's the report from ABC 7:

The Governor stands at 33% approval, 63% disapproval, but he says he could care less. I don't see the poll posted on their website yet, but I'll put it up when they do. It didn't take very long for voters to get buyers remorse. Then he went on to say this:
"Almost everyone of those polls said I wasn't going to win too, well, here I am," said Governor Christie.
Actually as I remember it, Christie led nearly the whole way with the polls closing at the end. Funny, thats how Pollster.com remembers it too. Out of 86 polls taken between October 2008 and November 2009, only 19 of them ever showed Corzine leading Christie. He's said he's not good at math, but I don't think that 22% of the polls is almost ever one.

and I believe it (more or less) (0.00 / 0)
Well, it's a bit odd no one is undecided, but otherwise the polls from last month showed his support dropping sharply. So it seems the trend is continuing, even if I'd guess other polls might have him a bit higher.

Telling people to vote against the local school budget is really outrageous. Imagine being a parent at that school.

Usually Survey USA also posts the results at their website but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Maybe 66% of New Jersey is hitting their website at once! :)

Bull-fighting in NJ (0.00 / 0)

For an elected governor after three months to find himself at only 33% approval is a significant indication of lack of confidence in his introductory policies.  I doubt, however, that this poll will slow down our determined, bull-headed governor in the immediate future.  He is determined to achieve his slash and burn objectives. He also realizes that a governor can typically achieve earth-shaking change only in his first year or so. Nonetheless, if this extremely low approval rating continues, it will provide ammunition to the democratic legislature completing a budget in June and put a damper on his post-June plans to place a cap on property taxes, a second round of pension cuts, and reform of Civil Service rules.

In a bullfight a matador uses his sword at the end but first banderilleros and picadores inflict minor wounds and wear out the bull. To achieve the end of our bull governor (recall, impeachment, failure in re-election, or change of heart), he will first have to sustain numerous wounds in the polls, at rallies, and from the legislature.

still opposed to a move to recall this jerk? (3.00 / 1)
with so many people hating this guy, so early in his term, a recall movement would get a lot of support, including a political press looking for a hot story.  it would play against the 'dems are gonna lose this november' and help the counter-narrative 'most people hate the hostile, safety-net-shredding gop'.  it would not be a drain on our resources; it would be a source of them.

Recall is a bad idea (0.00 / 0)
As terrible as he is, recall of CC is a bad idea.  The other side has essentially unlimited resources when you take into account the national Republican Tea Bag party and Christie's Cronies.  More compelling reasons not to recall are at http://www.deciminyan.org/2010...

I'm worried about recall for one reason (0.00 / 0)
Kim Guadagno--- From what I know about her she's a white supremacist-- do we really want her in charge of one of the most racially diverse states in the union?

Just like one of the main things that deterred people from impeaching Bush was Cheney-- Guagagno is Christie's Cheney.

Recall is a great idea (0.00 / 0)

The Democrats have to start playing some offense.   At the very least, a recall is a distraction that will slow down the dismantling of  NJ by CC.

Christie's Hypocrisy and Fact Checking (0.00 / 0)

Some of Christie's trolls were going ballistic over the AP story the other day being wrong.  Will they go ballistic and demand a retraction when their own Governor says things that are verifiably untrue.  Every poll last summer had Christie leading by substantial margins in the race for the Governor.  Christie is lying when he says otherwise.

Of course, when you lie pretty much all the time, telling the truth on even small points becomes hard.

The dark side of Chris Christie (4.00 / 2)
Chris Christie has a dark side that may even exceed that of Richard Nixon.  His enemies list must include practically every union leader and politician in the state.
At least Nixon, though, had the good sense to let others be his attack dog (remember Spiro Agnew?) and, as historians have already conceded, turned out to be somewhat moderate in his domestic and foreign policies (trip to China, wage and price controls, etc.).

Christie has a history of alienating others.  As a freeholder he was defeated in the primary after only one term because he didn't get along with the other GOP freeholders.  Then, when he ran for assembly, he was defeated in the primary by Mike Carroll.  Even Rick Merkt, who used to be his political ally, turned against Christie and ran for governor against him in the primary.  Obviously Merkt knew something about Christie that the rest of us didn't know at the time.

Finally, those polls in 2008 which had Corzine ahead of Christie are meaninglesswere because they were taken before Christie even entered the race and nobody knew who he was.

Christie's dark side (0.00 / 0)
The fact that Christie's dark side is his modus operendi will make him a prime candidate for VP in 2012 - after all, VPs are supposed to be attack dogs and keep the Prez candidate out of the fray.
