Quote of the Day: "Just because the Governor says..."

by: Jason Springer

Thu Apr 08, 2010 at 04:00:00 PM EDT

The rhetoric heated up at the Assembly budget hearing yesterday and no doubt it will continue ot get hotter as we head to the June 30 deadline for the state to pass its budget. Assemblywoman Nellie Pou wants people to look past the words of the Governor:
"Gov. Christie wants to tax hospitals, working poor families, businesses and senior citizens while eliminating property tax relief for the middle-class and seniors and slashing school aid, all while digging in his heels to protect the wealthy," said Assemblywoman Nellie Pou. "Just because the governor says this budget is built on shared sacrifices doesn't make it so."
But Christie and people who support him will continue to say that raising taxes is not an option. And for some reason, they're able to get away with it, not matter how many headlines come out talking about tax increases as a consequence of the actions.

I wonder how the NJGOP (0.00 / 0)
will react to facing a Party of No?

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

Christie's ratings (4.00 / 1)
His ratings are dropping faster than a whore's drawers at a bachelor party.  Soon he'll start to drag other Republicans down  with him.  When that happens you can be sure he'll come under pressure from Republicans in competitive districts to find a way to "enhance revenues" and restore some of the cuts in aid to suburban GOP districts.

My prediction is we'll see a government shutdown over the summer followed by a deal between Christie and the legislature which will "enhance revenues" by closing a few loopholes and ending some tax breaks while restoring some aid to suburban districts.

This could benefit Adler (4.00 / 2)
As Christie's ratings go down this may affect the close race in the third district.  Florio's unpopularity in 1990 helped a then political unknown named Christie Whitman get uncomfortably close to knocking off the heavy favorite, Bill Bradley in the US Senate race.

If Christie's numbers continue to drop he may drag Jon Runyan down with him.

... but who wants Adler? (0.00 / 0)
