by: Rosi Efthim

The bill is imperfect, the process bloody and the stakes high. At the end of the day, we'll know where we stand. This is what democracy - and the crafting of sausage - looks like today:

Stupak a yes (4.00 / 1)
So it looks like all be well in terms of the vote. What did he get? Whatever it is, it was made possible by "pro choice" Adler

Big effing gavel (0.00 / 0)
Why is Nancy Pelosi posing with that giant honking gavel? Media relations FAIL.

Okay, I get that it's an affectionate thing health care reformist Rep. John Dingell wanted her to have today, but really, it's going to be about 14 minutes before that picture is twitpic'd around the world, YouTubed by Republicans as a joke, and shouted about by the tea partiers right outside your damned door.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

I will be (0.00 / 0)
readying it for a caption contest most likely. I couldn't believe it when I saw it either. No one will ever know the explanation behind it, but it will appear in lit pieces for elections to come.

apparently that gavel was used when Medicare was passed (0.00 / 0)
it's symbolism but still the thing is huge.

shushing (0.00 / 0)
shushing seems to be a very powerful tool used by chair

Rob Andrews (4.00 / 1)
Great passionate statement by Rob Andrews (a real NJ Democrat, unlike John Adler), greeted by applause just before John Boehner got up to speak.

He closed with... (0.00 / 0)
Tonight we will give justice and decency. That's the kind of country we will be.

[ Parent ]
Boehner (0.00 / 0)
giving an absurd, over-the-top speech.

glowing more than usual n/t (4.00 / 1)

Call Homeland Security! (4.00 / 1)
Boehner's at Threat Level Orange!

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

[ Parent ]
Boehner's glowing remarks (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Pelosi (0.00 / 0)
acknowledges Ted Kennedy, then points out there are over 200 Republican amendments in the bill.

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

That was frickin' hilarious... (4.00 / 1)
that 200 Republican amendments line of hers.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

[ Parent ]
that should be a major talking point (0.00 / 0)
IMHO, if you introduce an amendment to a bill and it passes, you should not be allowed to vote against the bill as a whole.  If you do, the amendment should be stripped from the bill.

[ Parent ]
first of three votes (0.00 / 0)
To approve the Senate bill.

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

Senate bill crosses threshold (0.00 / 0)
217-204, but some still haven't voted.

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

and it's totally hilarious (0.00 / 0)
How some Democrats cheer as the threshold is reached, then count the final seconds of the vote.

219-210. 2 Repubs did not vote.

[ Parent ]
and I post too soon (0.00 / 0)
updates to 219-212.

now the vote on the motion to recommit (0.00 / 0)
which would kill the reconciliation fix. It should fail.

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

Oh the irony (0.00 / 0)
The deciding votes ... Bart Stupak and Dennis Kucinich.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

so the last vote is going on now (0.00 / 0)
to pass reconciliation bill.
