Quote of the Day: Don't "drive like idiots"

by: Jason Springer

Sat Feb 06, 2010 at 03:56:44 PM EST

The Governor is driving around the state assessing how bad things are and he's got some pointed words for truck drivers:
The governor had harsh words for commercial truck drivers, urging them to slow down and "not drive like idiots" while traveling through New Jersey.

"We saw numerous accidents on the way down here (from northern Jersey), and we saw some commercial truck drivers driving like idiots," he said. "They need to stop, stop going so fast, stop driving in a stupid way. They endanger road crews who are working and other drivers on the road."

Christie said he wants to travel to the counties before deciding whether to declare a state of emergency and that won't happen until at least tomorrow. By contrast, MSNBC says a state of emergency has already been declared for Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware. If it's bad in your area and you don't have to go out, it's probably better to stay home. And if you do venture out, just be careful and take your time.

disadvantage of a big state (0.00 / 0)
down here (Salem County) it should certainly be a state of emergency, disaster, whatever you call it.

Irony (4.00 / 1)
I support the governor's sentiment. Nobody wants crazy driving, particularly crazy driving of multi-ton trucks.

But perhaps Chris Christie should allow somebody else in our state government to lecture about bad driving.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

And don't drive like my governor.

Heckuva job Christie (0.00 / 0)
He's probably right about the truckdrivers.

But he's pulling a Bush on the emergency stuff.  Didn't he listen to the weather reports?  Did he not turn on the TeeVee?

He has to get into a big ole SUV to see for himself that there is 2 feet of snow, roads are impassable, trees are down and electricity is out.

And he'll decide tomorrow whether there is an emergency?  The emergency is now - right in front of you.

What a maroon.

He's hardly in a position to judge... (4.00 / 1)
With so many moving violations and points on his record, Big Boy is hardly in a position to talk about people driving like idiots. But he's governor now (sigh) so I guess he's entitled.

why would anyone take driving advice from Christie? (4.00 / 2)
wouldn't it be the same as taking dieting advice from him?

As much as our new Governor is not that smart, (0.00 / 0)
he does have a point about the "independent" truckers who act like bullies on the Interstate highways.  They just go much too fast for the size of their vehicles.  When I am going 70 on I-95 and am being passed by an 18-wheeler, it is just too fast and they should be pulled over by thye NJSP.

Agree, most def. n/t (0.00 / 0)
