(Letter) Grading Sweeney+ POLL

by: Jay Lassiter

Sun Jan 24, 2010 at 11:34:39 AM EST

Steve Sweeney is currently the state Democrat's Alpha dog.

On the one hand he dodges tough votes and stubbornly holds multiple elected positions.  But on the plus side, he can bench press heavy things.

How do you rate his tenure thus far?

is a D (0.00 / 0)
not that I really know Sweeney but anyone who abstains from a vote or holds two govermnet positions at any time - but especially in a time of state financial crisis is a coward and does not deserve a higher grade...

well he did... (4.00 / 2)
well he did give paid family leave for many on NJ.... so i have that fond memory to justify my grade inflation.  but it's fading fast.

paid family leave (0.00 / 0)
As Senate Majority Leader, he had to gut his own bill from 12 weeks to 6 weeks just to get it to pass.  If he was a real leader, he would have been able to get it to pass at 12 weeks.

Obvious "A" Vote (1.00 / 3)
He had the guts to say he made a mistake on ME.

So far he demoted Rice and Turner, two of the biggest frauds in Trenton.

He put Codey on the back bench where he belongs( what a 8 year legacy that guy has!).

He has shown that he will be open to ideas from Christie but will not be a pushover either.

Trenton needed new blood .The old way got stagnant.

Too many on this site are one issue people and refuse to look at reality and the big picture.

Sweeney has already shaken up the State Senate and that is a good thing which makes him grade out an "A" in my book!

Who gets points for making a mistake and then saying so? (4.00 / 2)
He had the guts to say he made a mistake on ME.

But he didn't have the guts to cast a vote in the first place. Since when does a politician get points for failing to step up and, within moments, acknowledging he didn't? That's a pretty low bar for earning an A.

I give Sweeney an F for... (4.00 / 2)
...flunkie; he is bought and paid for by George Norcross.

Also, call me elitist, but neither lifting weights nor the lack of a college education should be badges of honor for anyone who is responsible in so many ways for the education of so many of our state's young people.

If the guy has enough time on his hands to be a union leader, freeholder, and State Senator, he should find the time to go to school and get a degree if for no other reason than to set an example for others, but more importantly so he can have as broad and deep of an understanding of complex issues as his aides who feed him his talking points and write his speeches.

As best as I can tell, there is not much difference between Sweeney and Scott Brown other than labels like Democrat and Republican which mean less and less as time goes by and votes are cast (or not cast as the case may be).  I have more faith in the possibility that Chris Christie will be a moderate Republican like Tom Kean Sr. and Christie Todd Whitman than Sweeney ever being a progressive Democrat.

I'll give rachael'sdad an "A" (0.00 / 0)
....for not holding back, and letting the fur fly...

Check out my 3 paragraph primer on Polywell Fusion.

I'd give an incomplete (0.00 / 0)
Because I'm not sure what the point of grading a few weeks is.

Anyway, I went with C above, due to the marriage non-vote.
