Take it easy!

Remember back in July when the FBI busted thirty political operatives and about a dozen rabbis?  Well, one of those guys was a guy named Guy Catrillo.  Catrillo was a planning aide in Jersey City, but today he was sentenced for his corruption.  He could have gotten fifteen to twenty years.  He got eighteen

MONTHS!

Thurman Hart :: Take it easy!
Yeah, I know - going to prison is never a small thing.  But Castillo took $15,000 in bribes.  That means his time in prison buys back the bribe at a rate of $27 per day.  Geez, I wonder if this is what happens when we get tough with the sleezebags driving our state to ruin...

This kills me:

Catrillo had faced between 18 months and 24 months under the terms of his deal with prosecutors. His lawyer, Michael P. Koribanics, asked for lenience, saying Catrillo was a religious and charitable man who dedicated much of his life to improving Jersey City, his hometown. He was fully cooperative with authorities, even leading the FBI to a bedroom slipper where he had hidden $10,000 of the bribes immediately after agents knocked on his door, Koribanics said.

I don't know which is more laughable - that a "religious and charitable man" is busy running a kickback business or that he stuffed ten grand in his slipper when the FBI came a-knocking - or maybe the biggest joke is the so-called "sentence" that means he gives up only eighteen months (probably six, after good-time reductions) of his life for ripping off the public and contributing to the sewer of corruption in this city, this county, this state.

Just for the record - this guy is a Hudson County Republican.  So next time someone comments about there not being any, just give them Guy's name.  And tell them how rough we take it on corrupt politicians.

In totally unrelated news, the lights are out downtown.  I put in a call to Satan, but I heard he was busy ice-skating.  At least the scum was skimmed off the swamp of Hudson politics.

Seems like a pretty lenient deal. Is he testifying?

I'm reading the Soprano State right now so I'm pretty depressed.

so do you like the Kindle? (0.00 / 0)
I find myself actually thinking of one, because there are just too many books around my house and I like iTunes so much, but I am too cheap and too cautious.

Re (0.00 / 0)
I got a Sony Pocket-Reader for Christmas and I love it - and it's only $299.  No wireless and you have to go through Sony's website to get some things, but it's pretty good.  I loaded all of my syllabi for the semester and reference material for my courses on it and still have plenty of room for novels and newspapers.
