Governor Corzine delivered his State of the State today before a joint session of the Legislature and the Governor's Chief photographer Tim Larsen gives us this fantastic shot of the chamber from up in the gallery during his speech:

State of the State

If you haven't been to the State House in Trenton, I highly recommend it. This is a great photo by Tim that gives you an idea for what it is like. You can click for the larger view of the photo

Where Was THIS Corzine!!!?!!! (4.00 / 1)
I just heard a few snips from his speech on the radio.    If Corzine had consistently been this emotive and direct from the heart during his tenure and the campaign.......he would have won.

It's a shame that this fundamentally  good and decent man was conned and taken in by advisers and consultants and "old pro"/whores like Bob Torricelli.

Corzine was never a "good old boy" but he was neither a solid ballsy progressive...neither fish nor fowl.....though clearly his sympathies were with the progressive ideals!

The state IS a better and more humane place because of Jn Corzine.....and he DID make a bog difference in many many peoples lives.........but oh God, how much more could have been accomplishe if he had thrown the FUCKING "money changers out of the temple" and governed as an aggressive progressive.....and the he would have kicked Christie's ASS and won big.

Obviously, I'm a lone voice in the wilderness here....but I bet that most of the people in this state would agree with me.

I just watched the whole thing...including the press coverage.

I realize that for some it will be painful to watch...but if you haven't watched it...please do.    And REMEMBER this defeat...and REMEMBER the potential that has gone unrealized.

The consequences of losing this election will cause much suffering and even death in the lives of many New Jerseyans.    This isn't just "politics"...it's about HUMAN LIFE AND DEATH.....those are the stakes.

Christie will govern as a right wing Republican.........and the children of New Jersey will pay the price.....as will the poor and the working classes and even the so called "middle class".

I hope I'm wrong about Christie, I really do.  I hope he succeeds in bring great health and prosperity to our state.....but I don't see it from him.    I see a poorer, and dirtier and more impoverished New jersey in which the right wing will blame Corzine for all the shit that hits the fan under Christie....and that's a shame.

Until and unless progressives take over the lead of the NJ Democratic party, nothing much will change......we will continue to be a kleptocracy in which the rich and powerful screw the rest of us.....and most of that screwing will be "perfectly legal"...and that's downright evil.

If you get what I'm saying here and your blood isn't boiling, I suggest you check your pulse to see if your heart is beating.

Corzines Problem (0.00 / 0)
I'll sum him up here.

Idealogically he was very "Progressive", but failed for the following reasons.

1.   He was the biggest enabler of corruption, wanting to have a "strong party" and keeping the most anti-progressive corrupt people in office.  He felt having a strong yet corrupt Democrat Party was better than a weaker but better one.  He rolled over for the party establishments.  It took the Feds to remove Wayne Bryant and Sharpe James.

2.  He failed at basic "blocking and tacking".  After the Tax Session of 2007 he undercut most of the proposals.  You can't run any fancy trick plays until your o-line can block.  In gov't with obvious financial problems you can't focus on things like the death penalth when seniors are cutting their meds in half to stay in the house they raised their kids.  He had his chance to call for a Constitutional Convention but caved to pressure to not have one.

I know this might offend a lot of people here but that is the reason why he lost.  If he had kept his promises with regards to finance in his first term he could have done anything he wanted to in a second.

There is a reason people in Trenton referred to him as "Chaplin on a Pirate Ship".  Nice guy but was undercut by his own party who had their own agendas.  Most people didn't care about "progressive issues" and voted with their wallet.
