Unseat Sean Kean
"Unseat Sean Kean"

Each week, Blue Jersey Radio streams LIVE with New Jersey's latest political buzz, interviews with newsmakers, and your stimulating calls.

This Week: We're recapping the lame duck session - the good, the bad and the ugly.

And, we'll be talking about what's next, like who's ready to kick some ass in 2010? Apparently, these people! (1,200 1,237 and counting) - just one of multiple Facebook groups popping up in the aftermath of the New Jersey Senate's failure to pass marriage equality. Joining us for the conversation will be Unseat Sean Kean spokesperson, Thomas Mannix, with an inside look at what the group is planning, and what kind of feedback it's getting so far.

Have something on your mind that you want us to talk about? Go ahead and drop in a comment with your thoughts. Or, feel free to give us a call, and share what's on your mind. Remember, it's all LIVE, so don't be afraid - join us, and find out what's going on!

That number again is: 646-652-2773.

Talk to you then!

Why more anger towards Kean than Turner? (0.00 / 0)
Do you have any interest in talking to Janine Gilliam or Catherine Caperello of "Shame on Shirley - Unseat anti-gay Senator Turner" or will that have to wait for another week?

It is also interesting that there hasn't been a single group created against Sweeney or any of the other South Jersey Senators who abstained or voted No or against Girgenti, Rice Sr., and Sarlo.

Also, why more anger towards Kean than Bateman and Beck?

I also wonder why nobody has created a group, championing Bill Baroni, the only Republican Senator to vote for marriage equality, and Jim Whelan, the only South Jersey Democratic Senator to vote Yes.

Why don't you create a group? n/t (4.00 / 2)

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

Seriously (0.00 / 0)
Bert - you're on facebook all the time - start a group, it's easy. Someone already has for both Turner and Bateman, there's one for all 9 Democrats who failed to support the bill, and no doubt there will be more for various other individual senators.

We didn't invite the Unseat Kean group on the show based on an anger-differential analysis. It was the first of these groups that I saw, and appears to be the largest thus far.

We're a 30-minute show - there's only so much we can squeeze in. And, we like to have a range of great guests.

With apologies for hijacking your thread. Hey, wait a minute - it's my damn thread!
:)

my facebook reach is limited (0.00 / 0)
I have less than 200 friends on facebook, a small percentage being people who care about marriage equality despite my constant sharing of info that others pass along to me.

I am sure that there is a way for me to create a group and publicize it outside of my circle of facebook friends, but the fact of the matter is that I am really not well-educated on all of the intricacies of facebook.  I comment, post, and share.  That's pretty much it.

That said, I did not raise these questions as a left-handed way of saying that somebody should.  I was simply curious why most of the facebook activity has focused on Sean Kean first and foremost, Shirley Turner  a distant second, and then nobody else other than the composite Democratic 9 group.

I was also curious why all of the activity was focused on people who voted no and there was no activity focused on people who voted yes, particularly the lone Democrat from South Jersey and the lone Republican.  It seems to me that they are pretty worthy of discussion too.

Has it suddenly become taboo to raise questions that are relevant to the subject of somebody's diary or is it only taboo when I do it?  Does anybody wonder why such a small percentage of the visitors to this site comment and post diaries?  Maybe it has something to do with how easily someone can become a pariah here.

I wish I had your time to comment so much.... (0.00 / 0)
I can't keep up with you, you're in every diary I read.

For your sake, I hope... (0.00 / 0)

We would talk to anybody (4.00 / 1)
This group was started by people who are doing exactly what you are asking everyone else to do. Start a group, take action. If someone starts a Shirley Turner group, direct them  to our show. Write a diary about it.  No one is stopping you.  But I'm tired of hearing from people that we can't talk about this legislator or that legislator if we don't write about who the person offering the comment is concerned for.  This is a community blog and you have every right to post a diary asking the questions you believe others aren't. I have no doubt that we'll also talk about Shirley Turner and Ron Rice and everyone else during the show as well.

"Shame on Shirley" (4.00 / 3)
Someone already started an Unseat Turner group. It's at 256 members, and growing.

[ Parent ]
that was why I was asking my first question (0.00 / 0)
I wanted to know whether I should tell Janine and Catherine to try to get in touch with you for this week or an upcoming week.

I don't think that there was anything in my comment that said that you shouldn't talk about Kean over Turner.  I was simply curious about why you chose Kean over Turner.  It was a simple question that only required a simple answer, which Jeff provided without the attitude.  Thanks, Jeff.

I can understand that the position that I have taken regarding Kean on other diaries might have led you to presume that I was taking the same approach here, but sometimes, a banana is just a banana.

I think that, if nothing else, I am usually pretty straightforward with my opinions and questions and there is rarely any subtext involved.  You might not agree with or like them, but I would appreciate it if you didn't take more meaning from them than what there is.

[ Parent ]
They absolutely should try (0.00 / 0)
to contact us. Put the link to the page in the comments here so people can find it. And if they want to post a diary, we can make sure they get more attention for their efforts. You may not like what you perceive as the attitude, but while the response came to your question in this thread, it is one raised repeatedly in other diaries. I hope that people post diaries on any of the people they feel should be challenged or supported for the stand they have taken.

everyone to task or give them credit. I'm sure we missed some as Jeff barely got his Senator in at the end.

Great show (4.00 / 3)
and I love Vin's phone call, and thought his suggestions for Democratic challengers were great (mentioned my town's awesome and very progressive mayor).

Vin if you read this, I'd like in on the Democratic group to challenge Kean too.

It would be great if... (0.00 / 0)
...these groups could organize both primary and general election challenges for Sean Kean.  If I remember correctly, the first caller, who has been working with Thomas Mannix, said that he was a Republican.  He could be as good a primary challenger as anybody.

Since it is very unlikely that the Democrats will have a contested primary, it would be a very good organizing exercise to get people to register as Republicans and vote against Kean in the primary.  Even if a primary challenge isn't successful, if a primary challenger is reasonably competitive, he/she could force Kean to spend money and make himself more vulnerable during the general election.

[ Parent ]
I am meeting with one group on Thursday (0.00 / 0)
I will bring up finding both a good Democratic challenger and a Republican challenger to try and unseat him.

The problem with a Republican challenger is parts of the district are rather socially conservative and older, and they might only vote against an incumbent if he/she is a hard-right opponent (think a Lonegan type).

http://outspokenliberal.blogsp...

[ Parent ]
of course, but... (0.00 / 0)
...voter turnout for primary elections tend to be very low.

What you would need to do is get a significant number of Democrats and unaffiliateds to change their party affiliation to Republican so that they can vote against Kean in the primary.
