Tosser of the Day: Tom Kean Jr

by: Juan Melli

Wed May 03, 2006 at 05:34:12 PM EDT

Senator Menendez reached across the aisle to Republicans and Democrats alike to introduce bipartisan legislation to provide funding to help stop the genocide in Darfur. In fact, Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) was one of the main sponsors, and it passed by unanimous voice vote. In response, Tom Kean Jr stooped to a subterrestrial, slime-infested level by playing politics with a bipartisan effort to halt genocide:
“Does Bob Menendez have no shame? It is appalling that he would use the people of Darfur for political gain.  Menendez actually worked against their interests when he was raking in major campaign cash from Gum Arabic importers.

This should come as no surprise.  Menendez’s priorities have always been about building his fundraising machine, and not about helping the people of Darfur.”

Junior has sunken lower than the scum on the bottom of his own shoes. This is lower than the scum that lives on the shoes of other scum. Menendez led an effort to help stop genocide and Junior's instinct is to attack in order to get attention for his flailing campaign. Pathetic. And for that, I bestow upon him today's Tosser of the Day Award.

this is a bi-partisan bill.  why wouldnt he at least acknowledge he supports darfur.  not only to you have to convince people to fire the current officholder, but show yourself as the credible alternative.  he's just making himself look like an ass

Uh... (0.00 / 0)
Menendez actually worked against their interests when he was raking in major campaign cash from Gum Arabic importers.

The US imports of gum arabic total less than $20 million per year.  About half of that comes from the Sudan, which is the single largest producer of gum arabic.  Other exporters include Mexico, Nigeria, Chad, and Cameroon.  Sudan, however, produces 90% of the world's gum arabic.

Importers Service Co. of Jersey City and Frutaron Meer of North Bergen are two of the main importers through wholesaler PL Thomas & Co. of Morristown.

Actually, Mr. Menendez SHOULD be in the business of helping his constituents - including import businesses that operate in his district.  Are we to understand that Mr. Junior Kean would prefer to: 1) Hurt NJ businesses by limiting their ability to obtain a salable product; 2) Undermine the American food industry by limiting their access to a vital ingredient necessary to keep food on shelves; 3) Totally wreck the Sudanese economy (gum arabic is 40% of their exports); and 4) None of this would be for a valid economic or political reason?

Man, I can't believe how stupid that sounds.
