We have dueling quotes of the day from yetserday's Lobby day in Trenton for Marriage Equality. First this:
Matt Zinader, 26, traveled from Cumberland County on Thursday to support marriage equality, joining a Statehouse rally and later seeking out lawmakers in the capitol.
Zinader, who is straight, said he traveled from Vineland on behalf of his older brother Brett, 30, who is gay and has been in a committed relationship for 10 years.
"My brother's love is just as valid as any other couple's," Matt Zinader said, "and in this day and age we need to get by this discussion."
He's exactly right on both counts. And by contrast:
John F. Smith, of Fairfield Township, Cumberland County, tied his opposition to gay marriage to recent conservative protests such as the tea parties and others, saying, "This country has been losing its freedom and liberties."
Let me see if I understand this. He says he's there because he feels our country is losing freedom and liberty. So the best way to fix that is to prevent same sex couples from being given their freedom to marry and the liberty to live their lives without our restrictions on their families?
