My only regret during lobby day LOL

by: Steven Goldstein, Garden State Equality chair

Tue Nov 24, 2009 at 07:33:33 AM EST

In this morning's news roundup, we linked to a story about how marriage equality activists crowded into the gallery to keep watch on one of the issues prime opponents as he was sworn in, my freshly-minted new Senator Mike Doherty. - - promoted by Rosi. Well-played, Mr. Goldstein.

When hundreds of us packed the Senate gallery yesterday to see the swearing in of Senator Michael Doherty, instead of our EQUALITY The American Dream t-shirts, we should all have worn:

LOVE from your constituents Rosi and Joey

...with the "..take a walk..." line.

This truly is gut check time for NJ Democratic legislators.

Frankly, there are a whole host of issues and bills they should be passing during this lame duck....and that would be ANYTHING that Christie would veto!

This lame duck session will be the last opportunity to get anything decent into law for four years; they should be passing 200 bills!   From environmental to consumer protection etc etc etc.

If the Democrats sell out the progressive movement and fail to pass marriage equality they need to understand that "take a walk" doesn't mean that folks will just give up and walk away......but rather that progressives will walk away from the existing NJ Democratic establishment and start a new one, without the cowards and sell outs.

My sense is that the swing votes on this will come around to seeing/calculating that it is in their own self interest to do the right thing.

BTW Did you listen closely to Christie's voice when the reporter was questioning him?  He sounded nervous and scared.  He knows he's on the wrong side of history on this one.....it would be a stupid shame if the Democrats join him there.

Nick, totally agree. I was just talking to somebody about that statement. Crystal clear. Bang-bang.

I posted that video clip in Quick Hits too, in case not everyone found it in this diary.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.
