Sen. Loretta Weinberg responds to Sen. Steve Sweeney

by: Rosi Efthim

Wed Nov 18, 2009 at 05:31:57 PM EST

Senator Loretta Weinberg, reacting to the news of Senator Sweeney's statement today.

As the prime sponsor of the Marriage Equality Act, I am urging our current Majority Leader to honor the commitment he made to me to move this important civil rights bill forward. We have the ability in the legislature to talk about this bill and address the economic crises at the same time I received commitments from the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee as well as from Majority Leader Sweeney that they would allow this bill to move forward.  It will be a disappointment to so many in the grassroots of our party as well as to me personally if this commitment is not honored.

Does Weinberg have 21 votes? (0.00 / 0)
She has a Bill but she does not have 21 votes.

Big deal! Anyone can put up a bill but you have ot work to get the 21 votes.

Why post this Bill if it is a loser? That makes no sense.

The "anti" peopel are working much harder to getthis stopped then the "pro" people are to getting it passed.

This is politics 101. It will be posted when it gets 21 votes.

Weinberg knows the deal .

Try betrayal 101 (4.00 / 2)
You can defend the indefensible all you like. That's what you're paid to do. But, it doesn't change the fact that we were promised a vote, and we deserve a vote.

Ahem.... (0.00 / 0)
....what ever happened to the idea of democracy?

Let's have a public vote and see who stands where.

Then we, the people, get to know who we should support and who we should oppose.

The one time I went down to Trenton with a few activists and testified to Assembly and Senate committees on a particular bill.....our efforts were successful.

Your boy Seeney brought the bill to the floor, thinking the "fix" was in as usual....and because some of the folks at those committee meetings actually LISTENED to THE PEOPLE....Sweeney's fix FAILED!!!

So there are (as Amy Goodman would say) occasional "Exceptions to the Rulers".

First, I have to tell you yet again that you come across as a Sweeney/Norcross sycophant.  At this point I don't blame you for being ashamed of yourself and remaining anonymous.....just know that you're not fooling anyone and that your trollery is stinkingly obvious.

Do you have 21? (0.00 / 0)
What damn difference does it make if you get a vote that does not pass?

What is this a pity vote?

Get 21 and you will get a vote.

Sweeney Hack as Always (4.00 / 3)

Politicians make a lot of promises in private.  It is not usually in their interest to publicly state how they will vote on a controversial issue unless there is a vote.

From what I read, at least 21 senators have privately indicated that they will vote for the measure.   That's the best you're going to get unless there's a vote.

Sweeney's pushing against a vote is just because he's against the issue.   There are 21, (or so they say).  The Senator just doesn't want the bill to pass.  It appears you don't want it to either.

Personally, if Sen. Sweeney is like this before he becomes President, I'd rather have Codey team with Kean for the Senate Presidency.

Sweeney Is A Sleazbag Machine Pol Who Has.... (4.00 / 1)
..soul his soul to George Norcross.....and has likely already cut certain dirty deals with the scumbag about to become governor.

As long as the machines (Republican and Democrat alike) get their "piece of the action" they don't give a shit about anything else.

Non productive as usual (0.00 / 0)
Name calling and anger will not get the Bill passed.

I am very much in favor of the bill but lets face it, the people who are in favor are getting out worked by those who are against it.

Stop blaming Sweeney, it is your boy Codey who is playing games with the Bill. Codey has to put it up and he is mad at Weinberg for supporting Sweeney for Senate President.

START LOBBYING CODEY and stop crying in your beer.

How to Solve a Problem Like Sweeney (0.00 / 0)

Let me get this straight.  Sen. Sweeney is the one who makes a statement that now isn't the time for marriage equality, and Codey is to blame?

Of course, it's always someone else's fault.  It must have been Codey's fault that Sweeney couldn't carry his county for Corzine either.

[ Parent ]
You're A Suck Up To Sweeney and Norcross (0.00 / 0)
That's a consistent and obvious fact.

If your sucking up to them for money or just because you like the way they taste, I can't say....but you routinely and automatically adopt and push their party line and you routinely frame your bullshit in a progressive "concern" context......and you do this totally anonymously.

By my lights that makes you a troll.  The "name" fits.  Wear it.

Yes (0.00 / 0)
He's a classic concern troll.  Claims to be pro-union while engaging in union bashing.  Claims to be pro-SSM while saying it should not be voted on.

[ Parent ]
Norcross will get his (0.00 / 0)
wishes, all the political power will be in south Jersey while most of the people and money is located in the north.
It's a recipe for losing, witness our nest governor.

Restore democracy and the Constitution for which it stands.

Still backing Slimy Steve, Loretta? (0.00 / 0)

Stop attacking and start making calls (0.00 / 0)
Yipes ! Even Weinberg recognized that she was blaming the wrong person last night and started calling on Codey to post the bill.

How many of yo uhave made phone calls to get the magic 21 number.

I can only advise you on how to move the bill, you must do the work.
