NJ's Republicans Want Me?

by: DBK

Fri Oct 30, 2009 at 04:13:39 PM EDT

I moved out of New Jersey a year and a half ago.  Being one of those responsible types, I sent in my little blue card that informed my local elections board that I was no longer a New Jersey voter and registered to vote here in my new home of Minnesota.

A couple of months ago I received a letter in the mail asking me if I was still a resident of New Jersey.  I responded with the enclosed envelope and response sheet, saying no, I am not a New Jersey resident anymore and I already sent in the form that said so.  I was a little annoyed at what I viewed as a typical civic foul-up, but upon consideration, I decided that this might have been an attempt to verify the card I sent in rather than take my original mail as gospel.

DBK :: NJ's Republicans Want Me?
Then a funny thing happened.  At first it was ha-ha funny and now it is just annoying.  See, I spent the first fifty years of my life in New Jersey and for all of those fifty years I was ignored entirely by Republicans.  I never registered with any political party during the first forty-five or so years of my life, but I always registered to vote and always voted.  Shortly after I sent that letter back to the elections people, I started receiving absentee ballots in the mail from the Republican Party.  They kept urging me to vote in New Jersey's election by absentee ballot.  Not only was I not registered with any party for the first forty-five or so years of my life, but I registered as a Democrat when I finally did register.  And I worked for Democrats during their elections thereafter.  And I was a front-page blogger here at BlueJersey.  I skewered Republicans on a regular basis on my own blog and at another couple of blogs where I had posting privileges.  I was a busy boy and I made it very clear that I would never vote for a Republican again in my entire life under any circumstances.  In fact, I made that declaration not only in my living room at the top of my lungs one evening while listening to George Bush mangle both English and decency, but in writing in a public forum.

So far I have received about four of these absentee ballots.  I just now received a robo-call from Mitt Romney, an asshole Republican, urging me to vote for Republicans in New Jersey's election on Tuesday and telling me how awful the Democrats are.  I'm actually not a fan of Democrats, but I wouldn't vote for a New Jersey Republican even if I could.  Which I can't.  Because I am not registered to vote in New Jersey and I don't live there anymore.

You might just shrug this off and say, "Well, just one of those little mistakes people make."  It's a mistake that doesn't annoy the Republicans who make it, though.  They weren't just interrupted at work by a phone call that came from something named "Hollander Law" (I have caller ID, so that call was placed from the offices of Hollander Law).  They don't have the, admittedly minor, inconvenience of having to open these absentee ballots and then put them in the recycling bin.  And they certainly don't care about the waste of resources involved in sending ballots out of state to people who can't even vote with them.

Okay, so this is probably nothing more than a little rant on my part, but I really don't want to hear from these idiots again.  I won't hear from them after Tuesday, fortunately.  I am predicting a Corzine victory because the NJ Republicans seem to be too stupid to win.  I haven't followed the election or the polls or anything like that, but my only contact with NJ Republicans indicates that they are too stupid to win and I'm sticking to that.

UPDATE:  I received a robocall from Mike Ferguson yesterday.  Maybe I should send in that absentee ballot and then admit the vote fraud, apologize, and explain that I thought I could still vote in New Jersey because Mitt Romney and Mike Ferguson said it was okay.

If the Christie campaign is reading this (4.00 / 3)
My advice is that DBK is just playing hard to get. Another 10-20 applications for a vote-by-mail ballot should do the trick, along with personal time from Mr. Christie and Mr. Pawlenty. You should consider paying Mr. Pawlenty to fly from Minnesota to DBK's home, in, uh, Minnesota. Once you win him over, he'll deliver about 3-5% of the vote over the final weekend because he is Early Adopter who influences the hip crowd, who in turn lead the masses.
