Endorsement Recap in the race for Governor

by: Jason Springer

Sun Oct 25, 2009 at 06:13:47 PM EDT

Here's a recap of some of the Newspaper endorsements in the race for Governor:

Jon Corzine

  • Trenton Times
  • Philadelphia Inquirer
  • The Record of Bergen County
  • The NY Times

    Chris Christie

  • Asbury Park Press
  • Atlantic City Press
  • Courier Post
  • Courier News
  • The Home News Tribune

    Chris Daggett

  • Star Ledger
  • Vineland Daily Journal
  • Recorder Newspapers

We're still waiting on endorsements from at least the Daily Record, Jersey Journal, Gloucester County Times, the Express-times and the Trentonian. The NY papers of the Post, Daily News and WSJ may still weigh in as well. I linked to all the endorsements so you can see why they say they made the selection. Let us know if other newspapers in your area have endorsed one of the candidates.

Did any endorsements surprise you? And another question, do endorsements even matter?

In an election that might be decided by 25,000 votes or less every thing counts.

The Vineland Daily Journal might have a bigger effect ,per capita, then any other endorsement.

First of all there are a lot of Lonegan voters in the area covered by that paper. Many have become disgusted with Chrisite and his arrogance towards them . This endorsement helps to validate what many of them were thinking of doing. Daggett is now looked on as a legitimate candidate.

Daggett will do very well in the Vineland/Cumberland County area. He might get as much as 25% of the vote and that kills Chrisite. ALL of those votes would have been Chrisite votes.

When the final vote totals are counted on election day count the Daggett votes in the 1st District and see how much he hurt Chrisite.

The newspaper endorsement definitely helps Daggett take away votes from Chrisite.

    I thought (0.00 / 0)
the Vineland Daily Journal endorsement of Daggett really hurts Christie too. He needs to get votes there as it's not Corzine territory.

And the Asbury Park endorsement of Christie was beyond weak:

We support his candidacy, but only as a better alternative to four more years of Corzine.

Well, my endorsement became official today. I voted absentee (4.00 / 1)
    for the sitting Governor.

He's carrying my polling place by a 100% margin, even if it is my kitchen.

I just hope the lead he has in my polling place holds for the rest of the state.

    Gannett (4.00 / 1)
So, let me get this straight.  Four of Christie's papers are Gannett, and the other is a right wing shill paper.

    LOL (0.00 / 0)

Chris Christie:  The candidate for corporate greed and anarchy, from the poster child of corporate greed and anarchy.
