Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

Daggett on privatizaton (0.00 / 0)
We should look at it, but not always appropriate.  When it makes sense, we should consider it and implement it as fast as we can.

I'm not good at getting the words right, trying to get the spirit though.

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

[ Parent ]
Daggett talking about lowering the rhetoric (0.00 / 0)

People at nj.com are complaining the phone line is always busy. I'd bet.

Too funny! n/t (0.00 / 0)

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

[ Parent ]
Audubato follows up on healthcare (4.00 / 1)
Talks about Mammogram issue and mandate free coverage. Corzine says mandates are requiring insurance companies to take on certain responsibilities, names a few. If you don't require it, the insurance companies don't provide many of he elements that are apart of the system.  When you say mandate free, there is no requirement.  One mandate we have is for over 40 year old women, one is for under 40 year old woman.

Audubato asks if Corzine apologized to Christie about his mother.  Corzine said it's not about his mother, it's about are we going to require insurance companies to mandate coverage. Corzine was very forceful in pushing back against Adubato on this issue saying it is a fundamental difference between the candiadtes.

Christie's mother (0.00 / 0)
I'm sure the Christie campaign wants to try and make this about some imagined "personal attack" on Christie's family. But it's about whether you and I - and thousands of other people those mandates protect when health insurance companies don't.

Big ups to Corzine for keeping his eye on the ball.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

Audubato follows up asking about Christie v. Corzine on charter schools.  Corzine says he's been a strong supporter of charter schools.  Have expanded # of kids in schools from 14k to 22k, and expanded # of charters.  He said we want to hold accountable to same if not better standards.  Corzine pointed to the 9 new schools authorized for next year.

Corzine defends progressive tax system (0.00 / 0)
Says it's not higher for middle class.  Goes on to point out we have best education.

Woman asks about houses for sale (0.00 / 0)

Corzine says we don't have alot of options at a time we need to finance our education and we shouldn't be backing away. He said we are closing achievement gaps.

Adubato asks about the unemployment rate, he says its 9.3% and Corzine corrects w 9.7%.  Says NYC is 10.3 and PA is 8 and a half.  Corzine says NJ is unique in that they were one of 5 states to have medium income go up.  One of states that is insuring more people.  Says we have a lower foreclosure rate than national average.  Most important thing we need to remember is to create jobs.  That's why he can't understand why Christie doesn't want to take stimulus money.

They go back and forth on just how much money Christie would turn down.

How to force shared services (4.00 / 1)
Corzine says it's one of the best questions.  He says they've put a cap on what they can raise for property taxes. It's forcing communities to look for certain shared services if not consolidations.  Providing incentive dollars for studies to see whether merging areas like Princeton boro and Princeton Twp. is a good idea.

Q on shared services (0.00 / 0)
Corzine loves it.  Discusses what he's done, studies that are being done.  Strong answer.

Now discussing corruption.  Boasts of the numbers of convicted.

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

Question on why turned blind eye to corruption (0.00 / 0)
Corzine says they haven't turned a blind eye.  Points to Attorney General who has over 250 indictments. He says they have been true to enforcing the law and he's come up with bans on dual office holding, forfeiture of pensions for conviction, making sure there are caps on pensions to stop pension padding.  He says they have an aggressive anti-corruption record.

Student at Rutgers asks (0.00 / 0)
how Corzine can help make College more affordable since students are getting in so much debt.

Corzine says the first thing to do is hold down costs.  They put 3% cap on increases.  Second is that they've put in increases in tuition aid grants.  Talks about expanding grants and STARS program because we want to give financial support to young people.

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

Question about Transportation Trust Fund (4.00 / 1)
Audubato asks if he'd support an increase in the gas tax.  Corzine says he'd like to keep it as the lowest in the nation. He says we have a big decision about how to fund transportation.

I thought it was an excellent program (0.00 / 0)
Very informative, a good mix with some challenging questions, the reporter would really respond and get into it.

Frank LoBiondo Record and Jon Runyan Watch

Christie Intrigued me (0.00 / 0)
* Adubato

Christie intrigued me on two points.

1) You are only allowed to get one public salary if you are a politician (I love that - I'm tired of politicians who are municipal lawyers in 4 towns and collecting 5 or 6 public salaries)

2) Politicians lose their pensions.

I was very intrigued to hear this from Christie. I'm tired of the corrupt politics - this would help stop it.

Christie won tonight's match, still doesn't have my vote but has me intrigued.

Pensions (0.00 / 0)

"Where ever you go, there you are." - Buckaroo Bonzai

[ Parent ]
Not necessarily at local level (0.00 / 0)
Perhaps at state level, but at local levels, there are wide ranges  in net worth.

[ Parent ]
mayeb I'm wrong (0.00 / 0)
But for your example, wouldn't lawyers just bill by their hours, rather than collect a salary?
