Democrats extend Voter Registration advantage to 14% over GOP

The State Division of Elections issued their Statewide Voter Registration Summary. Here's a visual look at the breakdown by county:

We have over 5.2 million registered voters in the state and here's a breakdown.  While Democrats have the advantage over Republicans, the largest amount of voters are not affiliated:
Democrats have a fourteen point voter registration edge over Republicans in New Jersey, 34%-20%, according to a summary released by the state Division of Elections last Thursday.  But nearly half of New Jersey voters (46%) are not affiliated with a political party.

Since October 2008, Democratic voter registration has actually declined, by 15,430 voters, while the number of registered Republicans has increased by 6,794.  The total number of registered voters in New Jersey has decreased by 142,328 over the last year.

I'll put all the numbers that created that image below the fold. If you know anyone who has yet to register, the deadline is fast approaching at October 13.

This Is Where We Need An Effective "ACORN"... (0.00 / 0)
...and/or the FUNCTIONAL equivalent thereof.

Let's face it, most poor people aren't registered and even when they are they don't vote.

I bet there are a million low income people in NJ who don't show up at the polls.

A vital Democratic party and a real progressive movement would make it their/our business to get that group empowered to vote.

I won't go into all the reasons why I think that the status quo exists, or what I believe the solutions can be.......but it couldn't hurt for y'all to ask yourselves those questions.

voter apathy (0.00 / 0)
i don't think people care about voting, except in the Presidential election.

I mean, look at Jersey City.  A city with 240k residents, and what, only 30k or so voted during the Mayoral election?  And it was noted that one Ward, heavily minority, had the lowest voter turn out during that election, but one of the highest turn outs during the Presidential election.

Funny thing, the Bush administration taught me to vote in every election.

More of an Old School Lefty if anything......

Why Folks Are Apathetic Roward Voting Is... (0.00 / 0)
...what we should be looking into.

The answers are complex; but we should look to see who gains, who makes more money and who gets more power as a result of people being apathetic and cynical to the point of withdrawing from the whole political process.

I put it to you that it's no accident that things are the way they are.
