The debate over the Public Option and the implications for the Governor's race

by: Jason Springer

Mon Oct 05, 2009 at 12:15:00 PM EDT

In the Senate Finance Committee the other day, where the healthcare debate is centered at the moment, Senator Menendez spoke out in favor of the public option:

But unfortunately, both the Rockefeller and Schumer amendments that would have established a public option failed to get the necessary votes. Still another amendment sponsored by Senator Maria Cantwell would involve the states in the public option:
Under this amendment, the federal government would provide funds to participating states in order to allow such states to provide affordable coverage through private health care systems under congract.  People with incomes above medicaid eligiblity but below 200 percent
This amendment actually passed the Senate Finance committee last Thursday. If it were included in the final bill, that could pose an interesting question for Chris Christie. He's already backtracked on his unwillingness to accept federal stimulus funds, would he turn down funds for healthcare to create a public option on the state level too?

Watch Baucus's Facial Expression At..... (4.00 / 1)
....15 seconds into the video, just a fraction of a second before the cut to Menendez......as Menendez is saying that he supports Rockefeller's amendment for a Public Option.

That ugly sneer, that involuntary "tell" says it ALL!!!.

Baucus knows he's a whore.  Baucus knows that he's selling his soul to Satan.  Baucus knows that he's pushing for something sick and ugly and evil that will continue to KILL 45 thousand American's each year just so that the insurance industry can continue to financially rape our whole economy.

Max Baucus personifies all that is wrong with our nation and with human nature itself.

Bob Menendez is no Bernie Sanders or Dennis Kucinich.   Bob Menendez came out of Hudson County politics and is very familiar with the ways that ordinary little people get shafted by the rich and the powerful......Bob Menendez is no single payer advocate who is wanting to put the insurance companies out of business.

But even Bob Menendez who is essentially an establishmentarial pol, is dead set against the COMPLETE CRIMINAL SELLOUT to the insurance industry that Max Baucus is advocating!!!

Max Baucus truly IS the functional equivalent of a murderer and a terrorist.  He truly is an evil man.....all the MORE so because he calls himself a Democrat.

If there is a hell, surely Senator Baucus deserves to spend an eternity of eternities roasting and experiencing all the sufferings of those forty five thousand American who die every year for lack of medical coverage!!!

(And that's just the ones that DIE!  How many millions are merely living in disablement and pain because they can't afford to get treatment and their "case" isn't at the point of being life threatening enough to land them in a ER...and even then, the ER just treats the acute episode and sends the poor back out the door when "their lives have been "saved")???

The irony of all this is that a real single payer system would actually cover everyone in America and do it for less money than we are spending now.    In this case doing what is good and right is actually cheaper in the long run.

It all boils down to the legalized corruption/bribery that is our campaign financing system and the revolving door between politics and "the private sector".  It's evil.  Sheer evil.
