New Corzine TV Ad: "Nuestro Gobernador y la Educación"

by: Jason Springer

Fri Sep 25, 2009 at 05:50:45 PM EDT

From the Corzine campaign:
In the :30 second ad U. S. Senator Robert Menendez speaks to the Latino community on Governor Corzine's education initiatives and his support for Governor Corzine's re-election in November.

The ad will be on broadcast television across the major New Jersey/NewYork metropolitan area and Philadelphia region.

And here's the ad:

It's interesting, the only words Corzine speaks in the whole ad are, "Senator, come here!" The rest of the ad has Menendez talking in the foreground about education and his support for Corzine, while you see the Governor speaking with a group of people in the background. What do you think? I'll put the script in english below the fold.
Jason Springer :: New Corzine TV Ad: "Nuestro Gobernador y la Educación"
Here is the script for "Our Governor and Education:"
Senator Menendez:  In this economic crisis, New Jersey is one of the states that has suffered the least because of the stewardship of Jon Corzine.  He has made difficult, but necessary measures which is why he has been attacked unfairly.

Governor Corzine has invested 4 billion dollars for the construction of 52 new schools.

And now New Jersey has the best high school graduation percentage in the country.

Governor Corzine:  "Senator, come here!"

Senator Menendez:  "Be right there!"

Let's support our governor.  Jon Corzine is our friend.  We should all vote for him.

Good message, but this ad looks kinda odd. (0.00 / 0)
We young'ens have a term for what Corzine looks like in this ad - a creeper.  Him and the other people in the commercial are not even trying to appear like they are talking in a regular, non-filmed manner.

The ad definitely has a solid message about school construction, and I think it's overall a good strategy to target a major core of our Democratic base in New Jersey, but I'm just not satisfied with this ad.

Plus, I think the Latino leaders in NJ will turn out for Corzine in the end anyway.  In other words, this is a good commercial to acknowledge the Latino community and show what he's doing for them, but this isn't the demographic that will decide the election, it's all of the "frustrated with NJ politics as a whole" group that will.

I love it (4.00 / 1)
Now, I don't speak Spanish and I haven't read the translation.  But I really liked it.

Just from the visuals, it's about:

Corzine appointed Menendez
Corzine funds construction jobs to help the economy.
Corzine supports education.

and what mconvente perceives as bad acting (accurately enough), I found cheesily enjoyable.I just got a positive vibe out of the ad, I felt like they had a little fun in the Corzine/Menendez exchange.
