Blue Jersey Radio Tonight at 8:00 p.m. - Our Interview with Governor Corzine - Part Two

by: Jeff Gardner

Tue Aug 25, 2009 at 10:45:00 AM EDT

Staff Meeting
New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine

Each week, Blue Jersey Radio streams LIVE with New Jersey's latest political buzz, interviews with newsmakers, and your stimulating calls.

This week: We continue our conversation with Governor Jon Corzine - a discussion about his campaign for re-election, and the impact that the economy, the environment, corruption and progressive politics are having on the race.

Listen in tonight at 8:00 p.m.

When we left off last week, the governor was weighing in on Chris Christie's emerging scandals. Who could have guessed things would get even worse for Christie in just a week?

If you missed Part One of our interview, just click right here to get up to speed for tonight's Part Two.

The entire interview was recorded last week using some of the questions submitted by Blue Jersey readers. But tonight's show will be LIVE, and you can always give us a call during the show to join in the commentary with your own opinions about the race. That number again is: 646-652-2773.

Hope you'll join us. Talk to you then!

Rosi called in too for an on site report... (4.00 / 2)
from on line at the Pallone town hall tonight.  She said the.re are over 1000 people in line outside and 500 inside for the first session.  She said it is much larger than last night's for Pallone

Looking forward to Rosi's recap of the event (0.00 / 0)
(btw - loved Corzine's words on healthcare)

On Property Taxes (0.00 / 0)

I want to first thank Jeff and Jason for a great interview with Gov. Corzine and to thank the Governor for giving it.

But on the property tax issue, which I think is the defining issue of this campaign, I just don't think the Governor is giving voters enough of a reason to reelect him.  A 3.7% annual increase in prop. taxes is still too much of an increase, when they are already so high.  And the Governor really doesn't sound like he has a plan for limiting the increases more or reducing taxes.  His plan seems to be to keep urging consolidation of services and municipalities.  Lack of consolidation is not his fault, it's the legislature's, as the interview indicated, but that still means that the Governor can't promise that change will happen if he is reelected.

Unfortunately, I think one of ethically challenged Christie's main political assets is that voters know that things will change if he's governor.  Maybe not in a good or productive way, but they will change.  I don't see anything in the Governor's comments to indicate that action on property taxes in the second term won't be a replay of the policies of the first term.  And that scenario is not what voters want, in my opinion.

Best,
pb
