A tale of sleazy lawyer Chris Christie and his best friends

by: Adam L

Mon Aug 10, 2009 at 10:00:00 AM EDT

With someone as big of an ethical hypocrite as Chris Christie is, it is difficult to talk in simple terms about all of the ways his actions are precisely the opposite of what he says and how far too many have portrayed him to be.

And what it really boils down to is that he is just another sleazy lawyer - no offense to the many very good attorneys I know (including my wife).  But the fact is, there is a stereotype for certain lawyers because the type of lawyer that Christie is exists.  Says one thing, does another, for example.  Or:

  • Buys his position with hundreds of thousands in donations;
  • Abuses that office to give friends millions of dollars in no bid deals;
  • Abuses that office by targeting political enemies time and time again;
  • Gives jobs to friends' family members; and
  • Talks about cleaning up corruption and ethics reform - all while doing the very things he talks about changing.

Those are just for starters.

And with that, I figured that the best way to show it is to give a very simple visual explanation of how Christie and his fellow lawyer buddies look out for each other - and not for the people of New Jersey.  New Jerseyans really need to ask themselves if they trust this sleazy lawyer to run their state in a manner that looks out for them:

Can Someone PLEASE Get Jon Corzone To Watch This!!! (0.00 / 0)
Adam Lambert has just made one of, if not THE, most effective ads of the campaign, and he did it for the cost of a few hours of his time.

If The Corzine campaign was smart, they would take Adam on as an ad consultant....let him do his thing (maybe just a leeeetle bit better production value) and get the f out of the man's way.

Also, Adam's piece works a thousand times more forcefully if it's Jon Corzine HIMSELF saying the words.

The words are 100% true.  Ain't no doubt about it!

As I've been saying here for many months, if Jon Corzine, decides to truly take the gloves off...he wins and wins big.

Christie is a hot air balloon that's flying high right now.....but can be easily deflated if the will is there to do the bloody job of politically eviscerating and illuminating the fallacies underlying Christie's "appeal".

hey Nick--thanks so so much (4.00 / 1)
I was real happy with this, and maybe we can make it into a series with Christie and all of his buddies!

On a similar note - I have been meaning to reach out to you.  I'll send you an email tonight.

that being said.... (0.00 / 0)
I said this a few months ago, and I should be more vocal about it.....

I am doing some consulting for the campaign through one of it's online consulting companies - but I am not working for the campaign directly, and whatever I am doing is pretty much my own words.

Not that it would change any of the stuff I do in any way, but I probably should put a note in going forward....

You're Welcome...and (4.00 / 1)
while I'm here, I just noticed that in my haste I mistakenly typed in Corzine as "Corzone"........on the other hand, it also works as a kind of synchronistic pun.

Corzine must get into his own Core-Zone to beat Christie!

Call me a naive Don Quixote but I truly believe the the deeper we all get into our own Core-Zone....the more we find that we are in the same place.

Spiritulaity and Politics don't have to be antithetical categories.   I pray that Jon Corzine shares my vision on this point.

Very nicely done (4.00 / 1)

You're making me (4.00 / 1)
want to learn video editing more and more with each of these. Well done.

It's OK (0.00 / 0)
Kind of ironic to post this item beneath another post which shows that voters are not nearly as concerned about corruption and ethics as they are about pocketbook issues, especially property taxes.

I did like the video from a technical standpoint and it's a good attention grabber.

Substantively, however, I thought it was mediocre.  Herb Stern, a former US Attorney and federal judge, is widely respected among his peers, including Democrats.  Although nominally a Republican he has a reputation for bipartisanship and as US Attorney was noted for hiring Democrats on his staff.  Ironically it was his Democratic successor who reinstituted partisan hiring practices.  I have not looked at ELEC reports but I think it is a safe bet that he, as well as other members of his firm, have donated generously to Democratic candidates as well as Republicans.

As to his son I recall reading a news article that he graduated near the top of his class from one of the best law schools in the country.  If he was unqualified, or even marginally qualified, this might be a legitimate point.  However, under the circumstances, it appears that bringing Hern Stern's son into this comes across as nothing more than a cheap shot.

Anyway, I seriously doubt Corzine would use this ad. If he or his advisors don't know Herb Stern personally they certainly know him by reputation.  And, as I stated before, he and/or others in his firm, have likely given generously to Democrats.

As the Monmouth poll demonstrates I really think voters are turned off by all this negativity over ethics.  Steve Lonegan spent more than a million dollars on this stuff, the DGA and Corzine millions more, and Christie's poll numbers just keep getting higher and higher.  It's like the 1992 presidential campaign when George Bush, unable to defend his sorry economic policies, relied instead on negative campaigning about sex, lies and corruption.  It didn't help him then and I don't think it will help Corzine either.

I agree that Chrisite's personal resume leaves something to be desired.  But he seems to know his limitations, as his appointment of Ralph Marra, a Democrat, to be hid First Assistant demonstrates.  Although I plan to vote for Corzine, I won't lose much sleep if Christie wins and surrounds himself with people like Ralph Marra, Herb Stern and even David Kelley (a Democrat).

Effectively Pointing Out That Chritie Is A Hypocrite.... (0.00 / 0)
...whose own hands are unclean and who lives in a glass house would go a long way toward defeating him.

Right now Christie is riding a wave due the lousy economy that has many folks in a foul and frightened mood.....and due to the shockwaves from the recent corruption arrests.

If Christie is allowed to get away without ever having to say anything or to respond to anything, he will win.

Going head to head with Christie in debates and in ads and on the stump in terms of ACTUAL policy and Corzine's ACTUAL record....Christie comes up short because he really hasn't much of an idea of wtf he's talking about compared to Corzine.

Even Lonegan seemed to have gotten the better of him in their debates.

For Corzine to win, he has to reach people on a gut level and get their attention.   Personally hammering Christie and challenging him to a REAL fight, man to man would get lots of attention and make the race interesting to the point where those registered Democrats that weren't "likely voters" will actually get enthused and show up at the polls!

And, as I've written, Corzine needs to seize away from Christie the mantle of "corruption buster"....and if anyone in the state Democratic establishment has any problem with that, well, to hell (or should I say, prison?) with them.

There are no legitimate reasons to be against radical reforms on ethics, campaign finance, electoral fraud and also increasing the sanctions for violating the public trust to trul PAINFUL levels that would actually dissuade most these smartasses from thinking about selling their offices!

If/When the public begins to see Jon Corzine as a fire breathing agent of transformative change, these poll numbers will reverse fairly quickly.

Ken, is there anything said in the ad above that is not factually correct?   At the very least, there are strong appearances of impropriety.

Christie is a fraud, and doesn't legitimately deserve the numbers he's been enjoying.....and even those are starting to wane.   The guy bought his job in the Bush administration!   I have YET to read or hear of any account that tries to make the case that Christie was hired on the merits alone!!!  That's PAY TO PLAY writ large!!!

He's peaked....and (if Corzine plays his cards right) it's all down hill from here on in for Chris Christie.

Nick, as you know, I'm planning to vote for Corzine, and I would like to see more coverage of Christie's record as well. He really IS a fraud. You're right about the need to get Corzine's record of accomplishments more coverage. Corzine has done a better job of addressing children's health and services than any governor in my memory. Christie's record as USA on weapons prosecutions is poor, and his campaign has gotten millions from the gun lobby. The side by side comparisons on issues don't make Christie look good.
On the bright (hopeful) side--in the past, Corzine has demonstrated that he knows how to campaign effectively. Keeping my fingers crossed & my boots on the ground!
