Quote of the Day: Now is not the time to throw in the towel

by: Jason Springer

Sun Jul 26, 2009 at 05:38:33 PM EDT

During Senator Weinberg's introduction to the Democratic Ticket as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor yesterday, she offered this take on what the events of the last week should mean going forward:
"I know it is quite tempting, after the events of this week, to write off government as totally corrupt, out of touch and not worthy of anyone's time or support. Believe me, I've had those same thoughts more than once myself," Weinberg said at a campaign rally at the Bergen Performing Arts Center.

"Every time I have a thought like that, I redouble my efforts to fight. And now is one of those times when good people in government must stand up and fight.

"I know who I'm fighting for, and whose side I'll fight by," Weinberg said. "To all who are disillusioned, now is not the time to throw in the towel. The stakes are too high. This governorship is a serious job in a serious time, and it deserves specific plans."

You can watch her whole speech here.

That was my favorite quote (4.00 / 2)
from the speech yesterday. So many times I have seen and heard Loretta give us encouragement when so many said what we were doing was impossible.  It wasn't easy - these last 4 years. To tell you the truth - it was exhausting.  Keeping up with the antics of Joe Ferriero was downright like keeping tabs on a two year old who never sleeps.

And like a good Grandmother, Loretta always knew what the two year olds would do next before THEY even knew.

We trusted her, and we continued fighting despite all the odds. That is why Loretta says we can't give up now. She knows we CAN clean up NJ - she has the disinfectant.  It's called sunshine.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

Yup Loretta Hit The Nail On The Head.... (0.00 / 0)
....and the bit that you highlight, Jason, is critical and bears repeating.

""To all who are disillusioned, now is not the time to throw in the towel. The stakes are too high. This governorship is a serious job in a serious time, and it deserves specific plans.""

Bursting the hot air bubble that is Chris Christie is very doable.  This race is far far far from lost.  We can turn this around....if we dig deep and commit to transformational change in NJ. (Which is what the electorate wants and what Christie isn't offering.)

The texts of all three speeches that day were truly well written and spot on.   I hope the Corzine campaign makes them all available.

The link to Loretta's acceptance speech in the diary is incorrect (though hopefully it will be fixed by the time you read this).  This one should work.

hey nick....change???
hello....why do you think JC is losing right now??
people are fed up, i'm fed up with Dem tax and spenders which what LW has been doing all these years, the last thing JC should have done is pick a Trenton Dem...maybe you didn't catch what Corey Booker said two months ago...that we need a tax revolt in NJ.....WOW!!!!!!!
a Dem actuallly speaking the truth for a change.....and who has been spending and taxing me to death...everybody like LW and the other  Trenton Dems and County Dems....we got the wrong person on the ticket....
i'd put Booker at the top of the ticket if it was up to me....gee imagine if that was the case, a Dem who thinks we need a tax revolt....now that would have been real change for NJ....and a Dem i could support......
