Loretta Weinberg is Corzine's Choice & Open Thread

weinberg

It's Loretta Weinberg.

This is the woman we've called the Godmother of Progressive New Jersey. The uphill-battler of corruption in politics, particularly where she finds it in her own party. the transparency advocate. The fighter - way out front - on marriage equality.

And the woman, who in the thick of the struggle for the soul of the Democratic Party in Bergen County, found herself written about so heavily here at Blue Jersey that her name was up-top in our list of the most requested tags to research posts. Her family called her the Hot-Tag Grandma. And we love that.

Congratulations, Senator.

Sen. Weinberg was our guest last week on Blue Jersey Radio, and I called in and told her I had formally requested to the campaign that whoever the LG pick is, she or he be our guest on the next Blue Jersey Radio. I'm happy to say she promised if Corzine picked her that she'd be there. Here for your listening pleasure is last week's show. And I'm happy to announce that the future Lieutenant Governor of the State of New Jersey will be our guest on the next Blue Jerey Radio, next Tuesday at 8:00pm. Our first back-to-back guest, ever.

I know what I think. I'm thrilled down to my socks. I'm boogie-happy. Woo hooo! But what do you think, Blue Jersey?

Congatulations Senator Loretta Weinberg!!! (0.00 / 0)
It won't be an easy win; but I am confident that, with the help of the New Jersey progressive community and of all good Democrats and all lovers of justice and common human decency throughout New Jersey....that Jon Corzine will win re-election and that you will be New Jersey's first  LG!!!

Congratulations to my favorite Senator!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Governor.

LW4LG!!!!!

To celebrate the positive change this could mean for NJ, here is one of my favorite diaries on the corruption busting efforts of my favorite Senator from Oct of 2007:

If the Governor wants to clean up corruption in NJ, he picked the right woman for the job!

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

a reason to get re-engaged (4.00 / 4)
Hello to anyone who has missed me as well as anyone who hasn't.  After a lame attempt at local office last fall and starting a new job in January that disappeared in May as a result of the economy, I have been as disengaged from politics for the last six months as I have ever been in my adult life.

However, that changed this afternoon when I received Steven Goldstein's e-mail.  I am so excited that through this decision to select Loretta Weinberg as his LG, Governor Corzine is finally standing up with the progressive community in New Jersey and apart from the political establishment, Democratic and Republican, which for far too long has enabled the kind of activities that made the news this week.

After experiencing the tattered state of our country's/state's social safety net firsthand, particularly with regards to its failure to provide the temporarily unemployed with the resources they need to maintain their standard of living and stay in their homes, and being disappointed day after day and week after week by the Democratic Party's failure of nerve and unwillingness to leverage the mandate that the voters gave them last year to produce the kind of bold policy initiatives that will enable our country to survive these difficult times and thrive in the years and decades to come, I have not felt any of the passion that I used to feel towards politics, but with the selection of Loretta Weinberg as Governor Corzine's LG, I am ready to get engaged and involved once again.

From the time that I worked for former Governor Jim Florio against Governor Corzine during the Senate primary in 2000 to hoping that then acting Governor Dick Codey would run for his own term in 2005 to being disappointed by the Democratic establishment's decision to pass civil union and not marriage equality legislation in 2007 to hoping that then-President-elect Barack Obama would select our Governor to be Treasury Secretary, I have probably been one of Jon Corzine's most vocal critics within the Democratic Party, but after today's decision to pick my favorite NJ politician as his running mate, I am now ready, willing, and able to put all my past ill feelings aside and work to re-elect him Governor and elect Loretta Weinberg as our state's first Lieutenant Governor.

Who knows?  Maybe if Tim Geithner doesn't serve a second term as Treasury Secretary after President Obama is re-elected in 2012, maybe Corzine will be selected to replace him, and for at least one year, if not five or nine, we could be calling our favorite NJ politician, GOVERNOR LORETTA WEINBERG!

A guy can dream, can't he?

I will have to change my username soon (4.00 / 4)

I love listening to Jeff and Jason while typing, particularly the interview with Loretta Weinberg and the attempts to keep Jeff's secret undisclosed location secret and undisclosed, but wish that the broadcast wouldn't be interrupted and restarted every time that I go from page to page.  Is there anything that can be done about this?

Hmmm (0.00 / 0)
I'll get Jason to look into that - it would be better if that didn't happen. For now, you could always open up a separate window (that's what I do).

Nice to "hear" your voice. Good luck w/bambini #2.

As positive reaction or a good choice already made? (4.00 / 1)
I wonder whether she was already slated for the spot or if the selection of the lead anti-corruption figure in the state's largest county was a reaction to yesterday's arrests. Either way, I'm delighted.

The Lord Works..... (0.00 / 0)
....in mysterious Ways!!!

Recent events represent an opportunity to transform New Jersey!!!

Let's GO FOR IT!!!   :-)
