It's Time To Pick An LG And Come Out Swingin!

by: Nick Lento

Tue Jul 21, 2009 at 12:02:35 AM EDT

Now that Christie has chosen a Catholic, Italian, Pro-Choice woman in a attempt further attempt to pander/pretend that he's a "moderate to liberal" Republican, it's time for Jon Corzine to name a genuinely progressive woman to be his LG, and that should be someone with state wide name recognition and an unimpeachable reputation for integrity and who is qualified to be governor on day one should tragedy strike. (Obviously Jon Corzine is a walking example of the fact that anything can happen.)

I wonder if Christie was reading my stuff here months ago when I was saying that if the Republicans nominated a John Lindsay type that they would win?

Well, I was around when progressive Republican John Lindsay was mayor of NY, I got to hear him speak out in Bryant Park against the Vietnam war....and let me tell you....Chris Chritie is no John Lindsay!   Christie is a Bush/Ashcroft/Cheney/Gonzalez Republican to the "core".

If Christie had been among those fired when Bush had Gonzalez get rid of any US Attorney who showed some signs of integrity, then he might have a leg to stand on.....but by all indications Christie is a hypocritical hack.

Now that's not news to..... >

Nick Lento :: It's Time To Pick An LG And Come Out Swingin!
........anyone here.  Anyone who's read the stuff that Huntsu and many others have been writing here on Blue Jersey knows what a fraud Mr Christie is.......but, sadly, the BJ readership comprises a statistically tiny proportion of the electorate (so far).

What has to happen, and happen fast, is that Jon Corzine and his new LG (whoever that is) must not wait for the debates....but they must come out swinging and administering Rockey-esque political body blows into the soft underbelly of Chris Christie's hypocrisies!!!

It's not good enough that we put out our clever and subtle commercials.  They don't penetrate the fact that people are scared and hurting on economic issues.   Corzine and his LG pick have to directly confront Christie's record and his grasp of the issues and his policy proposals (what ever they turn out to be if someday released).

Jon Corzine needs to sit down with Pallone and Pascrell and go to school on the DETAILS of the sleazy unethical deceptive and morally corrupt manner in which Christie handled the deferred prosecution deal that gave his ex boss "up to" 52 Mil in contracts!!!    Then Corzine needs to DIRECTLY challenge Christie to debate THAT issue face to face, man to man!

The fact that Christie is too proud or just too STUPID to even acknowledge even the APPEARANCE of impropriety is a nail in his political coffin.......but that nail has to be hammered home!

Further, Christie needs to be personally challenged by Corzine and his  savvy smart LG on a daily basis re the scores of hard/concrete ISSUES that confront our state.    Christie becomes Dan Qualyle when he has to actually talk SUBSTANCE in any detail.

It's understandable that Corzine is down in the polls given the economic hardship for many and the insecurity for most; but it's not understandable that Corzine is allowing such a large "target rich" zone as Christie to hide behind bland generalities and empty bullshit rhetoric!

It is my understanding that Jon Corzine served as a US Marine.  Well, it's now time to dig deep into his own guts and to show some of that Marine fighting spirit.

The stakes here really are life and death.

Four years of Christie as governor will cost New Jerseyans much pain and suffering and some will like have their lives destroyed a result of having right wing Republican policies.

In addition, this is a race with national (and therefor international) implications.   It is imperative that Barack Obama be invited to come back to New Jersey at least one more time and better yet two or three.   If the Bush/Rove Republican con job tactics of Chris Chritie "succeed" in NJ; Obama himself may be on track for being a one term president, that's how big a disaster it would be to go easy on Mr Christie.

PS Whomever is picked as LG needs to have a SERIOUS policy making role and some real power.....or the job won't be worth having for anyone with the chops to actually BE governor on day one!

Huff and Puff but it just ain't hapinin (3.00 / 1)
Another poll today shows that the voters just don't like the guy and the way he has governed.

Corzine needs a good LG ,but more importantly he needs a minor political miracle.

He has no connection with the voters.

He still has money and some time but the direction of this campaign is wrong and must be changed.

Please Check Your Research: LG is Irish Catholic McFaddon (0.00 / 0)
that is her maiden name and she was born in Iowa. Iowa is up there with Mass and NJ in regard to the disproportionate number of Irish Americans...

Thanks kathyoh... (0.00 / 0)
I made the mistake of trusting what I read on PolitickerNJ yesterday.   I shouldn't have taken what the anonymous poster "Demsanddonts" said as authoritative. (Ya gotta watch those anonymous folks!  ;-)

http://www.politickernj.com/ed...

"Christie wants to play this law enforcement card all the way to the finish line. She's Italian and Catholic."

The fact that she has an Irish background and an Italian married name is good politics for Christie...but the problem with the Chistie ticket is Chris Christie and his history and his agendas and his policies.

I believe that as more light is shed on those three areas that his lead will shrivel.

Anyway, thanks again for the correction!

Geez...Let's be real.

Religion and Republican politics

"Candidate Christopher Christie's father is Irish and his mother was Italian; his running mate, Kimberly McFadden Guadagno, is Irish, and his married to Superior Court Judge Michael Anthony Guadagno.  Christie and Guadagno are the first Irish Republicans to run statewide since Cahill..."

Following by Wally Edge 7/21/9

Rick Shaftan is getting his way.  The veteran conservative political consultant has been arguing for years that one of the best ways to beat a Democrat in New Jersey is for Republicans to run a Catholic candidate of Irish or Italian descent for statewide office.  Now the Republicans are running two Catholics - the first time they have nominated a Catholic since William Cahill in 1969.  GOP gubernatorial candidate Christopher Christie's father is Irish and his mother was Italian; his running mate, Kimberly McFadden Guadagno, is Irish, and his married to Superior Court Judge Michael Anthony Guadagno.  Christie and Guadagno are the first Irish Republicans to run statewide since Cahill, and Christie is the first Italian American to win a Republican nomination for statewide office.

I acknowledged that I made an error and documented the basis of the error.  I also graciously thanked you for the correction, twice.  Thanks a third time.

If you have any comments to make on the actual substance of the diary, please feel free to do so....or should I take it that your only quibble was with the question of Guadagno's ancestry?

So Who Are You... (1.00 / 1)
.....the big bad wolf?

Take your anti-Corzine line of bullshit and go peddle it at Politicker.

I believe Jon Corzine is a lot tougher than you may imagine.  I know he has it in him to politically eviscerate Christie.

Christie is an abject hypocrite who is pretending to be something and someone he isn't.

Sure, his poll numbers are inflated because the economy sucks and folks tend to unthinkingly blame the incumbent....but the support for Christie is a mile wide and an inch deep.

All Corzine has to do is to turn on the lights.

Dear Anonymous Detractor.... (0.00 / 0)
....who snipes (yet again) from the gutter of anonymity.

I truly do believe that Jon Corzine will win this election.   I don't believe that I'm "Huffing and Puffing".

All Jon Corzine has to do to wipe the floor with Chris Christie is (1) take the gloves off....and(2) run on a progressive agenda of truly cleaning up the state and of putting all the creeps and crooks of BOTH parties  (who get fat off the taxes and labors of decent citizens)  in jail where they belong.

If you have a problem with my agenda; have the guts to say so out loud and give your reasons.  Better yet have the guts to show your face and tell us who you are!    It says a lot about you that you have such strong views yet lack the courage to stand up for them in public.   Come out of your rat hole and join the rest of the human race in the sunshine.

I also believe that there are elements in the most corrupt parts of the Democratic party machine that would love to see Jon Corzine lose.

I have to note that getting a "1" rating from the likes of you (who also gave me lots of such ratings when I spoke out against Joe Ferriero and his corrupt cronies) is a badge of honor!  Thank you so much!   :-)

Life or death? (0.00 / 0)
I take offensive to that, especially since we are fighting 2 wars right now.

Why don't you think about the mothers and fathers of this State who have children in harms way before you compare an election to life and death.

Seriously? (0.00 / 0)

There's nothing wrong with using the expression "life and death."  It's part of the lexicon.  If you object to Nick's position, please take it on.  But objecting to the usage of everyday language isn't productive.  It's just a way of stifling speech or characterizing someone in a way not justified by their positions.  It's something that the Republicans specialized in (in their attacks on Gore, Kerry, and Obama).  We shouldn't adopt it as well.

Best,
pb

Yes Seriously.... (0.00 / 0)
funny part is I don't disagree with picking Sen. Weinberg as LG, at this point she seems to be the best choice.

I do disagree with framing the need to win an election in life or death terms, especially when we have soldiers deployed fighting on 2 different fronts.

The stakes here really are life and death.

That really doesn't look like the everyday usage of the phrase "life or death" to me.

You're Dead Wrong.... (0.00 / 0)
The differences between 4 more years of Jon Corzine vs 4 years of Chris Christie are massive.

It's not difficult for anyone who has a modicum of intelligence, education and a progressive vision of the current state, national and global situation to understand why my assertion is true.

You see, Matthew, getting elected to high office is not just about winning a title.   The winners actually get to influence and implement policies that affect the LIVES of human beings!!!

If you really need me to flesh out the point of that last sentence to spell out precisely how the myriad of differing policies of a fairly progressive Cozine vs Bush Republican Christie can be matters of life and death for some numbers of people; then you'll have to ask for it as I don't wish to insult your intelligence by stating what, by now, should be obvious to you (if you think about it for just a little while).

In addition, a Christie victory would certainly weaken Obama and make it more likely that he becomes a one term president....and the implications of those outcomes  would be massively global.

This business of electing Jon Corzine over Chris Christie is not just a game over whose personal ambitions will be advanced.....it truly genuinely actually IS about the ways  real human beings live and die in this state.....and about the QUALITY of their lives.

[ Parent ]
Off the deep end... (3.00 / 1)
Nick I agree that electing Chris Christie would be a terrible, terrible thing.  But to say people are going to die if he gets elected is like Dick Cheney saying that America is less safe and will be attacked by terrorists if John Kerry was elected.

You're wrong and shouldn't use that language in talking about an election, no matter how important you think it may be.

[ Parent ]
Respectfully, Matt (0.00 / 0)
Given that Nick is known to have opposed both those wars, and added his labors to replacing the regime that started them and efforts to impeach that regime, I think he's well aware, and deeply concerned that  people's lives are at risk in battle.

It was just an expression. You could argue its drama, but I think you're wrong arguing its intent.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

[ Parent ]
Actually, I think its great that Christie went first (0.00 / 0)
He chose, and now the last word is with Jon.

Christie secured 'Monmouth' (which he was likely to win anyway.)  He left Bergen way open.

Pick LW for LG and wrap this thing up.

I once again call for the governor to 'go Jersey' on this guy with no executive experience.

Sure, I made some tough choices - but what would this guy do?  Everything I do is subject to inspection.  What we he do?  And if he would actually articulate what he would do, let's look at it and see who would be hurt?  He says he can run the state better but he hasn't run anything but a law office during the Bush Presidency

Okay, he probably can't say the last line.

We Democrats tend to keep advancing issues, when people care about the greater character and actions of the person.    NJ voters loved Codey, but I doubt most could name an issue he stood for.

I don't buy that argument (0.00 / 0)
carries any weight with the governor, only because he was pretty damn specific when he ran for theoffice -

"40 in 4"
"I don't see the need for tax increases in a Corzine administration"
"I will end the toxic mix of money and politics"

and not one of those statements has rung true so far.

I agree that property taxes are an issue (0.00 / 0)
and Corzine could have done more to force the legislative session to do something. still I think we would be talking about the share of income vs. property from regressive to progressive taxes

I just don't think the GOP ticket will do a thing about property taxes.

In fact, Christie's LG candidate has done a heck of a job managing expenses:
Overtime up 40% at Monmouth County
http://www.app.com/article/200...

It's the same balance of costs and services, no matter where you sit -- so when she gets on the state level will she magically be able to reduce costs, or will she advocate reduced services that she didn't see the need to advocate for as sherrif, in order to reduce property taxes?

Tell you what... (0.00 / 0)
It's all around depressing... I was sort of putting my eggs in the Chris Dagget basket until I heard him this morning. Although I still like him best, when pressed on the radio this morning he was not able to offer a specific plan other than 'Early conversations with the state's work force' either.

It seems nobody has a clue, and the Corzine campaign seems intent into goading the other candidates into making the same mistakes they made... (with respect to specific campaign commitments)

And then to hear that we will indeed have a 10 billion deficit next year... that NO one is addressing... truly depressing.

Would Have Been Better To Have Picked LG... (0.00 / 0)
...and announced with Obama in Holmdel.   That's clear.

The delay gives an appearance in indecisiveness and disarray, especially after Pinkett's name was floated by the Asbury Park Press and there was no immediate denial.  It's still way early and this relatively minor bump in the road can be overcome.....but let's not imagine that it didn't exist.

Note that in the above diary Loretta Weinberg's name isn't mentioned.  Whoever Jon Corzine picks that fit the above criteria will do a fine job and deserves our wholehearted support.

Why use up one good news day (0.00 / 0)
When you can get two.  So what, there's a little bit of indicisiveness now, once he picks it'll clear up.

Didn't Christie catch your hero Cammarano (0.00 / 1)
Tell us now, Mr. Jordan, about how wonderful Scammy is. (See if you can dig up Scott Shields to help you.) The feds took him away in irons this AM for flagrant corruption -- that this poster warned you about, 'pundit'.

Disclaimer: I wouldn't want to see Christie governor either. But then, as much as I always liked Corzine, what good is he if he takes people like Cammarano under his wing???

And you note that last month Cammarano's butt-buddy chastised ex-Freeholder Maurice Fitzgibbons got busted hard by ELEC?

Look for Cammy's other cheek-to-cheek dance partner, Assemblyman Ruben Ramos, to get swatted pretty soon, too, by the state authorities.

You know -- with all the warning signals red-flagging Cammy for a couple of years now, thinking he's such an 'honest' and 'decent' and 'hope of the future' candidate this past election really goes BEYOND stupidity.

You had to work very hard to ignore so many voices and so many unethicalities. Your staffing for such an arrogant and obvious crook calls into question every shred of your 'political acumen', if one could use the phrase in your case.

You, too, Scottie. And your personal integrity takes an even bigger hit than Jordan's does.

STFU (0.00 / 0)
Listen, Ernie Marmer, I quit the campaign in April.  You're pretty clever, but you're barking up all sorts of wrong trees here.

This whole thing is/was disgusting.  Good for the Feds.

Also, hide your identity better, moron.
