Congressman Rush Holt talks LIVE on Blue Jersey Radio tonight at 8:00 p.m.

by: Jeff Gardner

Mon Jun 29, 2009 at 05:05:00 PM EDT

Updated by Jason: For the 2nd week in a row, we had a great interview with a NJ Congressman.  We picked up with Congressman Holt where we left off with Pallone on the last show.  We started talking healthcare including the Single Payer legislation that's barely mentioned in the debate and whether the Congressman would oppose a healthcare bill if it didn't at least have a public option. We then talked about voting, vote by mail and paper trails before moving on to the NSA's illegal monitoring and the Governor's campaign.  Have a listen.

Rush Holt
Rep. Rush Holt, NJ-12
Each week, Blue Jersey Radio streams LIVE with New Jersey's latest political buzz, interviews with newsmakers, and your stimulating calls. Last week, we were treated to a great interview with Congressman Frank Pallone which you can listen to right now.

This week: Our guest is Congressman Rush Holt, NJ-12. With a great guest like this, it's tough to decide where to start - what should we know about nsa wiretapping issues? the latest on an anthrax probe? Where's the voter verification bill headed? and how about another perspective on the healthcare debate? Congressman Holt can offer some insight on all these and more.

Drop your additional questions in the comments, then tune in and join the conversation!

It's all LIVE Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m..

And, of course - you can always give us a call and have your say. That number again is: 646-652-2773.

Talk to you then!

What do you want us (0.00 / 0)
to ask the Congressman? I'm particularly interested in the issues Jeff listed above.  Is there something you'd like to hear?

Can we ask the Congressman.... (0.00 / 0)
why he is on the record at Firedoglake as "undecided" about whether he supports a public option in any health care reform legislation?

[ Parent ]
I just want to be clear (4.00 / 1)
it looks like he's listed as undecided for if he would vote against a healthcare bill if it did not include a public option.  He is actually a co-sponsor of HR 676, a single payer plan, according to the site. We will pose the question though.  Thank you for pointing it out.

Here's what he said... (0.00 / 0)
to the firedoglake question on whether he would oppose a healthcare bill that didn't include a public option:
i dont think i will vote for somethign that doesn't have a public option in it

[ Parent ]
Please Confirm That He's On With HR676 (0.00 / 0)
If Holt is indeed co-sponsoring Single Payer, he's extremely unlikely to vote for any "public option" that is a shameful sham.

HR676 is an actual bill, the details are written.   So far "public option" is a catch phrase that sounds nice....almost as if it was a "single payer" plan for those who "chose" it.

If anyone out there remembers how the political demand for assistance to elders in paying their prescription gave us "Medicare Part D" which proved to be a total gift and boondoggle that has enriched big pharma.    Pharma co-opted the issue and the impulse toward reform and gave us a dirty Bush bill that was passed in the middle of the night....a bill that actually made it illegal for the givernment to negotiate prices.

If we get a "public option" that is a a scam we would be better off with no bill at all and making Single Payer THE central issue of the 2010 election.

When people actually understand how the so called "health insurance" industry "works"...no amount of lying propaganda will terrorize them into voting against their own interests.

Single payer is not "socialized medicine".....it just eliminates a "middleman" that adds no value to the system but rather takes up 31% of all we spend on healthcare and provides no healthcare for that money.   It is a parasitical industry.

We plan to ask him (0.00 / 0)
about the public option and the single payer issue. He and Congressman Payne are listed as co-sponsors from New Jersey along with 91 of their colleagues.
