Poll: Christie 51, Corzine 39

by: Hopeful

Wed Jun 24, 2009 at 07:21:16 PM EDT

Pollster Strategic Vision finds that Corzine is still trailing.  They're considered a Republican-leaning pollster, but the poll of "800 likely voters" here in New Jersey finds:

  • Jon Corzine 39%
  • Chris Christie 51%
  • Other 2%.

Still no improvement for Corzine in the polls; the early ads have had no effect. The fundamental problem is that 59% of likely voters say New Jersey is on the wrong track.

If you're wondering, the Approval-Disapproval for major Democrats are:

  • Governor Corzine 34-54
  • President Obama 56-38
  • Senator Menendez 50-37
  • Senator Lautenberg 47-40

By the way, the average of the three June 2009 polls is 39-51, the same as today's results. So we can't blame the pollster.

    Positive Vision Going Forward (4.00 / 1)

I still believe that Gov. Corzine has to present a positive vision of where he will take the state over the next four years.  As part of that vision, he can detail his accomplishments and how certain items (like the lack of property tax relief so far) fit it.

    " Only" 12 down ? (0.00 / 0)
Months ago I felt he would be down 15 points on July 1st. Budget fights, economy, general bad news, Republican primary bump, etc.

The strategy is simple . By September 8th the lead must be cut in half. The only way to do that is to bring Christie back to him. Lots on money must be spent in the next 10 weeks to cut that 51 number down . Corzine can't make up all those points but he can get Christie to lose some of his points .

On September 8th the lead can't be larger than 7 points. Then al lhe has to do is make up 1 point a week for 9 weeks and he wins.  Every Democrat, every union member, every progressive, anyone and everyone must be mobilized right after September 8th and begin spreading the positive message.

    Negative first postive second.

He can win this thing by 2 % points in November.

I really hope Daggett gets matching funds.  I have little confidence in Corzine and none in Christie.  Christie is running purely on the "Not Corzine" ticket.

    The pollster (0.00 / 0)
Strategic Vision is a Republican pollster.  So you can probably chop a couple of points off of Christie's lead.  Nonetheless, it's clear that Corzine is trailing at this point.
