Sen. Buono on the 2010 Budget

by: SenBuono4LG

These quotes represent the strong pro-active leadership we need in the front office of the statehouse.  Senator Buono is not afraid to put the families of NJ first in such hard economic times.

"We responded with an economic stimulus (earlier this year)," said the Senate Budget chair. "Our plan, the first in the nation, was emulated not just by other states, but by the Obama administration. The fiscal discipline in last year's budget has spared the people of New Jersey even more pain."

"The budget also represents our state's commitment to maintaining quality education for our children, increased health care options for all of our citizens and needed property tax relief for our most vulnerable senior citizens. A look at what is happening in other states across the country - massive cuts in education, the closing of prisons, huge tuition increases for college students - shows we can take pride in a budget that has made difficult choices under difficult circumstances."

In comparison with states such as California in similar economic climates Sen. Buono had the following to say:

"While California is threatening to scale back children's healthcare, our budget increases funding for family care," she said.

Hollow statements don't make a candidate (0.00 / 0)

The current budget keeps college tuition from increasing more than 3%, but since other expenses have increased more than that, one has in effect reduced the quality of the college education that NJ students receive.   The budget also wants to furlough college professors.  It doesn't take a genius to realize that furloughing college professors will have an impact on the education the students receive.

How can this be when NJ has received 1 billion dollars in education aid from the federal government?   When K-12 spending went up 500 million dollars.  And when the Governor claims to be the education Governor.

It's one thing to make hard choices in a budget.  It's another to misrepresent what you chose to do.
