Ferriero wants corruption case dismissed

by: Jason Springer

Thu Jun 11, 2009 at 06:01:51 PM EDT

His trial is scheduled to start at the end of the summer, but Joe Ferriero wants it dismissed before things get under way:
Former Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero's defense attorney filed a motion in federal court today to dismiss the indictment against him.

Joseph Hayden, who represents Ferriero, said that they're seeking to dismiss the case based on an "unprecedented expansion of the mail fraud statute."

The more Joe Ferriero's name is in the news, the more it makes me think that Loretta Weinberg may end up being the choice for Lieutenant Governor. She appears to do the does the most to blunt the attacks that will fly relating to Ferriero. I have seen arguments made that she doesn't bring enough votes and I think it's debatable whether anyone really brings enough votes, but does she help the Governor not lose some on this issue?

Spanking Bums (0.00 / 0)
Ferriero was/is a bum.  Christie was/is a bum.

Christie ONLY "went after" Ferriero after Bergen County "RealDems" did most of the work for him!!!

Loretta has lots of experience dealing with jerks like Ferriero; shining some light on Chris Christie is well within the confines of her expertise.

If Christie is stupid enough to try to take ANY credit for indicting Ferriero and generally for "fighting corruption" it should backfire on him.

If Christie was REALLY serious about cleaning up New jersey he would have had 3000 convictions and, hell, I just might be voting for him myself!!!

The fact is that corruption is organized and systemic throughout the political establishment of BOTH parties....most of it is "legal" on its face and if taken as isolated acts......but if a real investigation using RICO statutes in an AGGRESSIVE manner were employed the lower level crooks would squeal on the levels above them and all the sweetheart deals and kickbacks and nepotism and cronyism would be exposed as a total SYSTEM of de facto and de jure criminality.

Christie went after assholes and low hanging fruit and he nailed a few of those......but he didn't touch the SYSTEM that is par for the course in BOTH parties.

Republican corruption is styled differently but it's just as dirty.

If Corzine does show the political savvy to ask Weinberg aboard, he should also have the political courage to attack the status quo with a vengence.

If and when the PEOPLE of New Jersey actually believe that the governor is actually willing, ready and able to make some transformational changes in the direction of honest clean and truly efficient governance they will vote for him in droves and the landslide will set the tone for the 2010 national races.

The chief problem in NJ AND in America is corruption and unethical behavior in BOTH the public and private sectors.   The corruption cripples our economy, our spirit and our very health/survival.

Weinberg is someone who has a deep sense of decency and justice and would not accept a job from Corzine if all he was doing is just using her for her clean reformist image.   It'll be more like she's interviewing HIM for the job and he'll have to give her some solid commitments to get her on the ticket.

Again, Corzine can win a close conventional race or he can choose to be aggressively progressive and be a transformational candidate and win in a landslide as he sets a great tone for 2010.   That's how I see it.

PS If Ferriero manages to "beat the rap" on technicalities he'll still be an exposed and washed up bum (though no doubt still a multimillionaire) and it will only make the case for stronger laws even more compelling.
