DFA Campaign Training Sat-Sun - open to all, but nearly filled

by: Rosi Efthim

Thu Jun 04, 2009 at 03:13:34 PM EDT

It's official - Jon Corzine's the nominee. And all over the state some very good people are running with him. And some of them need to go zero-to-sixty almost immediately, because they're running in uphill districts, or for the first time, or against an entrenched incumbent. There are people we're going to be watching to see whose campaign we believe in, even as we're still getting used to the privilege of calling Barack Obama President.

But it's time to get tough. This weekend people are coming from all over NJ - and trainers are flying in from all over the country - to train on new media, messaging, advocacy, fundraising - all the skills we need to drive new victories. The DFA Campaign Training is intense work, and great fun. And this year for the first time it's in the busy City of Newark, at Rutgers Law School. It's not too late to join us. Jump to the next page and meet  four who did, and see how they changed everything:

Victory Party 2008-11-04

Chris Leitner & Jack McHugh - 2008 DFA Training alumni
Chris & Jack quitely absorbed everything at DFA Training last year, including special sessions for candidates. But then, we lost touch a little. Actually, they were busy. They called the night Obama won, because they won too. We were kind of shocked -  these guys are the first straight-up Democrats to win in Point Pleasant Borough in nearly 30 years. How did they do it? Chris:

We got more votes in town than anyone up ticket on the D line, including Obama.  We won, pure and simple, in the field, non-stop knocking on doors and staying on message.  We won using what DFA training taught us.

Ed Zipprich & Juanita Lewis
Ed Zipprich & Juanita Lewis - 2008 DFA Training alumni
These two knew their 'win number,' and wrote out plans for fundraising, field & finance - all from DFA Training materials and exercises. They beat a seated GOP incumbent and running mate, by wide margin. They were nationally-endorsed DFA-List candidates, and with their win, Red Bank Council is now 100% Democrat.

What local miracle are you driving? What moves you? Saturday and Sunday we have trainers flying in from all over the country. It's big. And we've made it all affordable - even with special rates for students/low-income -  because your success matters.

This is about progressive wins, driven by skilled activists who know what they think and know how to engage voters. Volunteers will walk out more muscled and ready to take on higher tasks. And throughout the weekend we're convening candidates themselves to talk about their experience, hookup with mentors and do one-on-one campaign troubleshooting.

Blue Jersey's going to be there, too. Hope you can make it.

We're planning to repeat their success (4.00 / 1)
in Hawthorne this year.
:)

And in Raritan Twp. too (4.00 / 1)
With Marianne Rampulla, and Chan Leung, both of whom will be there.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

Time well spent (4.00 / 1)
Tom and I got tons out of this training last year.  The topics and skills that were offered were relevant and necessary.

I'm so proud to be part of the host committee this year!  I love the energy and the networking.  This training is AWESOME!!

Can't wait to see everybody!!

I'm signed up.... (4.00 / 2)

I know there are going to be a lot of people from the Blue Jersey community at DFA Training this weekend - and several of us Blue Jersey staffers. Let's find each other and say hi.
