Okay, then. Let's talk about the toilet.

by: Rosi Efthim

It seems to always come down to toilets for some people.

People like Assemblyman Wannabe senator Mike Doherty (R-Knuckledragger) and Asw Alison Litell McHose (R-Crazytown) who today announced their intention to introduce a bill requiring the Legislature to inform parents of school children who visit the State House of the Legislature's Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy.

Yeah. So the NJ Law Against Discrimination has been amended to prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression - ooooh I'm getting vewy scawd! -  in employment, housing, insurance, and (wait for it ....) public accomodations. And that follows the NJ Superior Court Appellate Division, to whit:

It is incomprehensible to us that our Legislature... would condone discrimination against men or women who seek to change their anatomical sex because they suffer from a gender identity disorder.

I don't know how even the most throwback of our legislators could argue that people shouldn't have employment opportunity, or be able to buy a house, or insurance. It's not defensible. So, they don't even go there. They go for what they think will light up parents by playing to their worst fear that something will happen to their little kids: Trouble in the bathroom. Bad people near little Ali or Mikey's pee pee. When all else fails, try to equate people with child-molesters.

McHose:

I bring this matter to your attention because the Legislature often plays host to busloads of very young school girls who have a need, as children do, to use our toilet facilities.

Boom. There it is! Now, standing aside for the moment - and um, really, really far away from - Doherty's and McHose's fascination with the bathroom, let's take a moment and talk about what our children actually have to fear when they get on that yellow school bus and take a field trip to watch how a bill becomes law.

Jump with me, and I'll show you what your kids really have to fear when they visit the State House:

How about people who see advances in stem cell research that could cure their grandpa's Parkinson's Disease as "yet another assault on the unborn". How about people who go into freakout over publicly-funded elections? What if your tender child ran into somebody in the State House hallway who doesn't know how to learn from their mistakes?

Michael

Or who hates so much that they would actually go out and try to ban people from trying to have happy lives.

And - gasp! - what if they were in the bathroom and the guy in the next stall was somebody who couldn't pass a 6th-grade science test?

I'm so sick of this garbage.

As I'm headed out the door to try and catch the new Star Trek movie, ironically a show about humans learning to get along a little bit better, in peace and harmony, sort of.

Gene Roddenbury laid out an ideal of a more utopian, more fair, more egalitarian society. It was the 1960's.

Enjoy Star Trek. Saw it last night. Haven't had that much fun in the flicker palace for years.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

for the unfortunate photo of McHose.

Can you imagine who you'd have to be to get that excited to meet Sarah Palin? Sheesh.

*sigh* Mikey... (0.00 / 0)
So many of us, out here in The Broccoli, have spent so damned much time trying to get people to listen, just listen, to the hard truths about Mikey, his madness and his essentian anencephalia.

It goes nowhere. In fact, just the other day, a very prominent Dem described him as "not such a bad guy". Ponder that, if you will.

The facts are that Mikey has approx. 7000 core, rabid, frothing supporters give or take, in Warren and Hunterdon Counties. He could be shown on TV, munching on the head of a live baby, and they will still vote for him, because he speakes to their bitterness, their homophobia, their racial views, their xenophobia, and their just-plain stupidity. They pine for a past that never has existed. They live by the canons of Faux n00Z.

He performs no real or measurable service for his constituents. His political strategy is to introduce hairball legislation, in the full and certain knowledge it won't even be supported by his own party, much less anyone else in Trenton with two braincells to rub together, and when it rightly tanks, he dons the sackcloth and ashes, portraying him and his supporters as victims of a cruel system that denies them the Bizarro World they want to live in.

This is why his "own" party wants him gone. Out of Trenton. Out of politics. Quote from a Repub Staffer: "We want his racist, homophobic ass out of here". Some of his Lege Repub colleagues refuse to sit near him on the floor. True dat.

Put it all together and it is no wonder that the rest of the state thinks that we, out here, engage in sex with close family members and barnyard animals. I fear that in the cases of many, it does occur and it is proved true every time we send this moron back to any elected office.

The nom de plume has a long and distinguished history.

The Neanderthal (0.00 / 0)
Rosi - how fabulous! You and Skal know how much I love Mikey, and how me loves me back. ;) Not that Marcia is much to write home about, but here's hoping she kicks his sorry ass next month and wipes that arrogant, bigoted smirk off of his Neanderthal face. Then maybe he'll leave my friends in the 23rd alone and go back to where he came from. (That would c. 12th and 13th Centuries, off to fight in the Crusades.)

Marcia Karrow (0.00 / 0)
Say what you will.... she's a SMART cookie.  i don't agree w. her very often, but she's clearly got substantial intellectual bandwidth.  Of course guys like Mike (and the folks who vote for him) actually resent Marcia for being smart and sticking up for herself.  Threatened by a strong woman?  perhaps, it wouldn't surprise me.

some people just celebrate stupidity.  Am glad i am not one of them.

Re: Marcia Karrow (4.00 / 1)
I agree that she's smart and tough. And she was actually really pleasant to cover as a reporter. By saying she's not much to write home about, I was referring to her policy positions, not her personality.

I can virtually guarantee that Mike is threatened by Marcia, personally and politically. Mike is very much a control freak, and not in a good way, and I'm sure he resents the fact that Marcia is very much her own woman, along with the likelihood that big, tough Army man is going to get a whuppin' from a girl.

Smart (0.00 / 0)
I've seen Marcia trend to the right over the last several years, but I agree overall that she's serious business - prepared, determined and good in front of a room.

I don't agree on much with her, but I have no problem respecting her work ethic.

Doherty doesn't approach her abilities. About all he's capable of doing is marshaling the forces of foolishness. Unfortunately the foolish donate money and he will continue to be a recipient.

Democratic Governors Association (3.00 / 1)
Keep in mind Doperty is running on the same ticket as Steve Looneygan.  If the DGA spends millions of dollars attacking Christie in the primary and enables a Looneygan victory, the coattail efffect may benefit Doperty.  And a Doperty win in the primary will almost guarantee he'll be in the State Senate next year.

I really hope the DGA reconsiders their position.  There's plenty of time to soften Christie up after the primary (and I'm sure it won't take very much to do that).

The Potty Heads attack! (0.00 / 0)
These are the folks who literally have their minds in the toilet. Can they be that pathetic, they now have this as an issue? Issue or toilet tissue?

Instead about looking to cut costs and payroll and taxes, they want to print signs and have people put them up in Trenton?

What's next, the potty police? They talk about liability? They talk about possible problems in New York?  ok let's talk facts in New York City, where a restaurant in Greenwich Village on Gay Pride day, actually chased a "genetic" woman (with ID) out of a ladies room! You'd better believe that restaurant lost that lawsuit!

Is this what Doherty wants? Do they want to inspect folks entering  bathrooms? think of the liability!

McHose was one of only 8 that voted "No" on the trans amendment to the LAD.

Dopey or perverted or both?
