Sweeney and Coleman on Christie's $3 billion deficit

Promoted by Jason Springer

The Democratic State Committee sent out the following remarks by Democrats on how Chris Christie just proposed $3 billion in additional spending without any way to pay for it.

User firstamend07 wants Steve Sweeney to be the Lt. Governor candidate so he can bash Christie around the state.  Here he is:

"It seems clear from Chris Christie's appearance on Michael Aron's 'On the Record' this weekend that he has still not looked at any of the information available on this year's budget proposal," said Sweeney.  "A significant amount of work has gone into continuing New Jersey down the right fiscal path and he has a responsibility to deal in facts when discussing issues that impact millions of people across New Jersey.  Even people who 'critique' for a living need to be truthful." ...

"Chris Christie's numbers don't add up, and he knows it," said Sweeney.  "That's why he won't be specific, that is why he won't answer direct questions.  And that is why he continues to engage in the same old Bush era tactics of promising more tax cuts, more spending and no accountability all at the same time."

But maybe you're a fan of Bonnie Watson Coleman for Lt. Governor.  Here's her statement:

"Those who run for high office have a responsibility to be specific and answer direct questions,? said Watson Coleman. "They must explain in detail what they will do to nurture our children, honor our seniors and protect the most vulnerable among us, including those who through no fault of their own find themselves suddenly struggling to make ends meet, find a job and keep their families in their home. It's easy to stand back and criticize, but that?s not the leadership New Jersey needs." ...

"Gov. Corzine's budget is built on a clear set of priorities and values that represent Democratic commitments to education, health care and protecting our most vulnerable, including our seniors, our children and the disabled, and this all comes amid $4 billion in spending cuts throughout government,? said Watson Coleman. ?This is no surprise. After all, the Governor and Democratic legislators have spent the recent months focusing on this global economic recession and ensuring New Jersey is best positioned to thrive once the economy rebounds. That comes from leadership, not armchair critiquing."

What do you think?  Are these Lt. Governor try-outs, or just regular quotes? I'd like to have video.

Sweeney's more feisty (0.00 / 0)
What Watson-Coleman said was true, but I am looking for attacks from my #2 , not logic.

Sweeney basically said Christie  was an uniformed " bushie" who must learn how to read before he speaks.

My LG candidate doesn't  have to be nice. Corzine can be nice.

Sweeney gives you that edge.

My vote remains the same. Sweeney is still the best overall candidate for LG.

Sweeney sucks (0.00 / 0)
His motto is, "unionism for me, not for thee."  He's the most hated legislator among state workers.  No wonder F.A. likes him.

Hated? Not your next LG. (0.00 / 0)
You mean the state " sheep" who listen to the politically impotent CWA leadership?

Most state workers who think for themsleves and do not drink the Kool Aid know that the State Senator has fought to make sure their pension fund is protected while the CWA leadership was sleeping all those years . CWA leadership allowed the pension fund to be raided.

The state workers who will begin to benefit from the Sweeney Paid Family Leave Bill this July also will not think badly of him.

Only the selfish " I want it all minority " of state workers who listen only to the ill informed CWA leadership dislike the State Senator.

There is not a single politician who will stand with CWA leadership at this time. So if those out of touch leaders do not like Sweeney then maybe that is not a bad thing. Being hated by a few sheep is fine.

Independent state workers who inform themselves on issues and stay away from the CWA Kool Aid know that State Senator Stephen Sweeney is on their side.

Finally... (4.00 / 2)
Democrats are going to bat for the Governor's fiscal policies and hitting Christie where it hurts: his vague promises that, if enacted, will bankrupt New Jersey.

I wouldn't get too excited... (0.00 / 0)
All Christie has to do to counter these points is mention '40 in 4'...

It seems unreasonable campaign promises are a vice of both sides...

Well Put Vincent.... (4.00 / 1)
Aside from the claim to be a corruption fighter, Christie is Christie Whitman in drag and with some extra weight.  (Hey now that would be an interesting morph!   lol)

Republican fiscal policies of borrow and spend didn't work for Whitman and we don't need to go that route again.....especially in these troubled times.   Given all the circumstances Corzine has managed the technical/fiscal aspects of his job well.

The only stick Christie has to try to hit Corzine with is the pay to play/corruption/machine politics angle and, given the Norcross Sweeney associations, Watson would be the better of these two on that score.

Unless Corzine is willing to take my advice and advance the cause of trully radical fundamental reforms he'll have to simply dismantle Christie in a conventional political battle.....and Christie is quite vulnerable for reasons that are clear to anyone who's been reading this site.

Watson is a talented woman who would appeal across the spectrum of decent folk.   (The racist angry white male vote was never going to be Corzine's anyway.  lol)

In any event, whomever Corzine picks will likely be far better than the Christie's choice so good Democrats and progressives will have to embrace and support that person.

The stakes are too high to hold onto stupid petty grudges.
